Per their website, “Opened on October 7, 1916, Taronga Zoo houses over 4,000 animals across 350 species, focusing on native Australian wildlife and global conservation. It is open daily from 9:30 AM.” I'm still raving about this experience because I've never been to a zoo quite like this! It started out with a beautiful ferry ride from Circular Quay and directly after buying tickets, we came super close to a sea lion! This closeness ended up becoming the “theme” of the park, in which we spent a full day interacting with animals in open enclosures or at least getting much closer to them than you would in the U.S. TIP #1: Eat at “Views” for lunch - it has spectacular views of Sydney, from across the water. TIP #2: For an even MORE AMAZING time, consider booking a night at the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga!
Really great zoo. Awesome selection of interesting animals well kept enclosures really pleasant to walk around one of the most interesting zoo I’ve been to.
Amazing zoo! We went in August. The weather was perfect - not too cold and wet with sun and a slight breeze. All the animals were out and sun bathing. Don't miss the Aviary and seal shows. Get there at the opening if you want to secure the popular animal experiences. We enjoyed the giraffe and dingo experience. Also wear walking shoes and have fun.
DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THIS COMPANY ITS IN AMERICA DOLLARS NOT AUSTRALIAN NO WHERE DOES IT SAY THIS I TRIED TO GET JUST PARTIAL REFUND AND NO ONE WOULD HELP ME. WHAT A CON OF A COMPANY. Zoo was good as always.
To gain the most out of this visit I would allow at least 6 hours. There is lots to see while there.
Having seen Taronga zoo in tv, we were excited about our experience. However, the lack of signage on the walkways was poor and at times despite the map, we struggled to negotiate around the zoo. This was mirrored by several other visitors who appear bamboozled like us. Clear signs on each junction would be helpful. Some enclosures were low on animals, but understand this may have good reasons for limited animals available. But bottom line we didn’t see them. The Zoo talks were good, but tricky to get to when there was two on at a time. The seal encounter was great and the bloke presenting was awesome. However, a sign on the footpath outlining a cut off - for the amount of people that could enter would be a suggestion. It seemed crazy we started queuing 30 minutes before the show. The chimpanzee yarn was really good, as was the Aussie animals alive presentation was excellent for us and the young kids perspective. Zoo staff were mixed with their support. We appreciate some are volunteers, but some appeared ill informed. Great views from the giraffe enclosure of the harbour. Cool to get up close to meerkats. 10 out of 10 for the educational angle the zoo shared. Unfortunately, when others have asked us about this experience. We have replied that we wouldn’t suggest it.
Taronga Zoo is a must visit while in Sydney ! Our family of 6 loved our time here - it is a unique zoo experience - getting the ferry from Circular quay added to the fun for our family. The zoo is well stocked with amazing animals - it is very well maintained with stunning views back into Sydney. The animals looked very well cared for. The staff were pleasant, helpful & professional. We loved the Seal show - very entertaining & educational. Highly recommend as an activity to do in Sydney.
The Zoo was fun and my inlaws had a great time seeing the animals and watching the seals perform. Definitely will recommend to my friends.
Amazing place to visit just not enough time to see it all and couldn't see all the animals Some enclosureade it even hard to get a picture or see the animals
The Zoo had a good amount of exhibits plenty to see. The view of Syndey Harbor from the zoo is outstanding. Highly recommend starting at the top and working your way down
