Sunrise SUP Caves Tour in Lagos – Small Group Experience

Very nice tour, nice and competent guide

I can't say enough good things about this experience. I've kayaked for over twenty years, paddled for over ten years and SUP surfed for the last five years in many places around the world. This sunrise paddle around and into caves with Gaylord, my girlfriend and only one other person was EPIC!! If you're going to explore these caves or the Bengali cave, I don't think you'll find a better tour leader and operation. Waking up at 6am was a bit painful after sleeping in to 8-9am daily for the two previous weeks of our trip, but at least Gaylord was at the agreed upon meeting spot at 6:20am. We saw someone else who showed up for a similar tour with another operator who didn't show up. I would've been so upset if I was that guy. We only had this day to do this sunrise paddle, and reliability shouldn't be underestimated. Several other points that are worth mentioning - Gaylord gave us a great understanding of how the caves were formed and have been used by fisherman and others, which was pretty cool, he took a ton of video that he sent us right after the experience so we didn't have to take our phones and worry about taking photos, and maybe most important of all, he knew which tiny caves we could paddle into based on tide and swell conditions. If you're going to do this paddle, you really have to rally and go early morning! There were less than ten other paddlers, no kayakers and no boats when we were exploring the caves. After we returned, by 10am, I noticed what looked like a naval fleet of boats and kayakers approaching the area from all directions. The pristine experience that we had would've been awful under such conditions. Also, something else that I hadn't thought of - the tide was about mid-level when we went which was perfect for accessing and being able to enter all the caves that we explored. By late morning, the tide had dropped several feet, and the kayakers that we saw couldn't even get to the caves let alone access them because there was now 20-50 feet of rocks leading up to the caves where there had been water just a few hours earlier. And if the tide is too high, at least you'd still be able to paddle up to everything, but you might not be able to paddle under many arches or into caves. If you want to do this cave paddle, I'd encourage anyone to reach out to Gaylord who owns Sygma BEFORE you go on your trip so that you can maximize your experience. No way any of the other tour operators that were just trying to maximize profits would take any of this into consideration, and we saw that play out with all the people showing up after 9am. Go early and you'll have an unforgettable memory!!

Absolutely magical experience at sunrise. I have done SUP before but you can definately do this tour as a beginner. Gaylord was our guide and he was delightful. Patient, informative, and fun. There is an option to go at 9am but he advised me to go to at 6.30am and I am so glad that I did. It was peaceful and quiet… in nearly every cave we were alone. No boats, no kayakers and therefore no waves! Gaylord also took photos and videos which he transferred as soon as we got back. Do not miss this !

A great experience. The equipment was very good and Gaylord was knowledgeable and a great guide. The coastline is stunning and you go inside multiple caves. Definitely recommended - I did the trip solo and was not a problem.

This tour is THE BEST!! We started our tour at sunrise and witnessed several other tours going out all with about 10-20 people. We had only my family and that’s it! So personal! We were able to access so many caves that we wouldn’t be able to with a big group. Gaylord is a fantastic guide. He knows so much about the history of the area and the caves. He takes a bunch of photos and will email them all at the end of your trip so you can have your memories forever! The scenery is nothing short of STUNNING and the water is the clearest most beautiful shade of turquoise you can imagine. This experience is magical. It was by far the highlight of the trip. Book it!
