Ryan was an excellent tour guide. Interesting and fun. Had a fabulous evening. Drinks were expensive. Venues were amazing!
The guide Walter made the tour, he was a captivating speaker and explained the history of Speakeasies in a clear and interesting way. The three we went to were all completely different and had their own interesting back stories. All in all a great evening
We arrived at designated meeting site and no one was there and we were unable to reach anyone at Viator for help. Very disappointing, now trying to get a refund.
Doreen, you contacted us to say you had booked in error and we instructed you to cancel through Viator and you would be refunded. Also, we are always available directly by email ntexperiences@gmail.com and phone/text to make sure guests find the host. Plesse contact us directly about the refund. Submitting a one star review is not the process.
Would not recommend. The drinks were overpriced, and unfortunately the tour guide came across as angry and annoyed whenever anyone asked questions. We ended up leaving after the second pub, and we weren’t the only ones—another group of three also left early. It was really disappointing because we had been looking forward to learning about the history as much as enjoying the tour. There were also several questions from different groups about the tab amounts, but the guide became very defensive instead of explaining them. On top of that, they were quite firm about expecting a minimum 20% tip, which made the experience even more uncomfortable. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience and not something I would recommend.
Well, thank you for the review! Every now and then it’s nice to get one that reminds people we’re real. After so many 5-star reviews, we were starting to worry people would think we hired a team of bots with impeccable taste in cocktails. A couple of things for future guests… Walter has been with us for over two years and a guide in the city for over a decade and this is the first review below 5 stars he’s ever received. That’s one heck of a streak! New York cocktail prices and gratuity are set by the bars, not us. We state the pricing in the tour description and confirmation. If we had the power to lower Manhattan drink prices and nix tipping culture we’d have solved rent by now too. Part of visiting New York is the cost of New York. The other three guests who left early spoke very little English and ultimately decided the tour wasn’t the right fit for them, which we completely understand. The rest of the guests on this very same tour stayed until the end, enjoyed a rooftop bonus stop and left 5-star reviews. Finally, we’re not a pub crawl. We actually don’t visit any pubs at all. We’re a nightlife history tour with craft cocktails at high end speakeasies. If you’re looking to sprint through Midtown chasing the cheapest drinks possible, there are tours built for that. We prefer to slow down, tell great stories hang out with guests, and enjoy some of the city’s best hidden bars.
Good knowledge of area. Sons 21st and he liked
Greta to hear. We love celebrating special events!
Walter was great! He shared a lot of interesting facts about the prohibition period. I would certainly do this again.
We really enjoyed this speakeasy tour in NYC. The experience was fun, well organized, and a great way to learn more about the city’s hidden bar scene. Our guide, Ariel, was very knowledgeable, entertaining, and made the tour even better with great stories and insights. Highly recommended!
My husband and I did the Speakeasy Tour on April 29. Ryan was our guide and he was super knowledgeable and a great story teller. We visited 3 speakeasys in Hell's Kitchen. He gave us drink recommendations at each stop - and he didn't steer us wrong. Every drink we had was amazing (pricey, but everything in NYC is expensive!). I would definitely recommend this tour to others!
You will see places you would never see otherwise. Walter was a great guide who knows a lot about NYC.
Our tour guide Ariel provided our group with a great mix of NY history, prohibition history, and speakeasy charm. The tour walked us through midtown NY and provided us with three speakeasy experiences— all different! Part of the charm of the tour was the great mix of people in our group.
