The only way to experience the kangaroo island nocturnal wildlife!
Just did a nocturnal wildlife tour with Luca. Would highly recommend.
Intimate affair. Beyond just showing us the animals, Luca shared his wealth of knowledge of the island, the animals and the landscape.
It was really great seeing the animals at night, behaving differently and in greater numbers too! Highlights were both a mother and child bush-tailed possum and koala on separate occasions. As well as the little penguins down by the bay.
All animals were responsibly sought out with a red light, and care taken not to disturb their night activities.
Will definitely return for one of the other tours if we are lucky enough to come by Kangaroo Island again.
Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the wonderful review! It was an absolute pleasure having you on our nocturnal wildlife tour.
I’m really glad you enjoyed experiencing Kangaroo Island after dark and seeing our wildlife behaving naturally in their nighttime environment. The possums, koalas and little penguins certainly made it a special evening!
Thank you also for mentioning our responsible use of red lights and the care we take not to disturb the animals protecting our wildlife while giving our guests a memorable experience is incredibly important to us.
I really enjoyed sharing the evening with you, and hopefully we’ll see you back on Kangaroo Island one day for another adventure!
All the best,

Disappointing and not worth the time or cost
The positives - we enjoyed our guide Luca who was nice and had entertaining stories to share. The tour seemed very disorganized, overall. We spotted a koala which was very cool. We spent some time looking at and learning about the habits of penguins which was also lovely.
Negatives - the vast majority of what we did was time spent looking at wallabies and kangaroos. It's Kangaroo Island. The amount of time we spent on Kangaroos and Wallabies was unnecessary given that they are everywhere and easily spotted just wandering the island. We saw probably over 100 of each on our own before this tour.
I think for what the experience was - about 2 1/2 hours total, combined with what was provided, $140 per person was not worth the value. I think the tour easily could've been 90 minutes total for half the price, and we'd have seen all the same animals and had a better overall experience, and one that would have been worth the value. I can't comfortably recommend this tour in its current format.
We also received information about certain animals that was different from what we heard from other tour guides / park rangers around the island, which was odd and confusing.
Overall, this was very disappointing and I don't recommend it. We were dissatisfied and would have been better suited with a different tour, or honestly, not wasting the time at all.

Thank you for your review. We have to admit, we are a little perplexed by it.
You joined a Night Tour on **Kangaroo Island** and were disappointed that we spent time looking at… kangaroos and wallabies. We’re not entirely sure what to say about that one! 😊
During approximately 2.5 hours, you saw kangaroos, wallabies, a koala and penguins in their natural environment. You also mentioned that you enjoyed Luca, his stories, and learning about the penguins. For a wildlife night tour, we would actually consider that a pretty successful evening, particularly since wildlife is wild and we cannot order different animals to appear on request.
You are absolutely correct that you can drive around Kangaroo Island yourself at night and potentially see some of these animals for free. In the same way, you can visit many destinations independently rather than booking a guided tour. A guided tour includes the guide's time, vehicle, fuel, local knowledge, experience and, most importantly, knowing where and how to look for wildlife safely after dark.
As for the suggestion that the same experience should take 90 minutes and cost half the price, unfortunately operating a professional guided tour on Kangaroo Island doesn't become half as expensive simply because somebody would prefer the tour to be shorter.
Regarding wildlife information, our guides are experienced local tour guides, not scientists or wildlife researchers. Information and interpretations can occasionally differ between guides, rangers and other people working with wildlife, and we are always happy to review anything specific that a guest believes was incorrect.
We are sorry the tour wasn't for you. However, considering that you saw a koala, penguins, kangaroos and wallabies, enjoyed your guide and his stories, and spent an evening observing native wildlife in the wild, we think describing the experience as “not wasting the time at all” is perhaps a little unfair.
But we do appreciate the feedback even if we may have to disappoint future guests by continuing to show them kangaroos on Kangaroo Island. 😉

Informative + Fun Tour! So Many Animal Sightings + Stars
I had an awesome nocturnal tour with Luca! It was so cool getting to see so many animals active at night that I normally don’t see during the day. Luca is super knowledgeable and familiar with so many parts of the island that I drove by throughout the day without paying close attention to its surroundings. We saw kangaroos, possums, wallabies, koalas (even one walking), special birds, and penguins! The night sky was spectacular with all the stars and he did a great job explaining the various patterns in the sky. I highly recommend this tour. I learned so much!

Thank you so much for the fantastic review! It was a real pleasure having you along on the nocturnal tour.
You certainly had a great night for wildlife kangaroos, wallabies, possums, koalas (and a walking one!), birds and little penguins! I’m also very happy you enjoyed our beautiful Kangaroo Island night sky. It’s one of those things that makes exploring the island after dark so special.
Thank you for recommending the tour and for sharing your experience. Hopefully we’ll have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Kangaroo Island again one day!
All the best,

On the road with Luca at any time
We were traveling with Luca. It was a great tour. We have seen and experienced more than we expected.
Luca was a great guide, time flew by. We've even seen koalas, which is not a given. We were completely enthusiastic

Excellent experience! Checks a lot of boxes
Amazing experience! We were thrilled with the amount of wildlife we saw. The context and history from the guide also enhanced the experience. We were able to see an elusive blue penguin at the last stop. Comfortable van and good company. I would recommend to anyone .

Kangaroo Nightlife and then some
Tour guide Luka was great with our small group showing us birds, roos, wallaby, possum, spiders and penguins and more on our night tour. Can’t recommend this tour enough, it was a highlight of our 18 days in AU.

Ride in the car
The tour actually involves "following the guide on a night safari to observe the animals" and actually it is good to specify that this is done: you stay in the car and turn around the island paths waiting to see pass through the vegetation of the animals.
The tour then takes place entirely by car. However in the tour carried out by us the guide realized he did not have the torches so first we turned a depot and his office and not having found them in the end we did the tour with the only torch in the guide's hand and the guests were without the torches, which in a night tour in itself makes the experience null and void. I think this is already unprofessional since the tour was booked for a long time and clearly it was not even checked to see if everything was in order. In addition, the van has tinted windows and also central seats, so observation is often made almost impossible.
Very rarely did we stop to carefully spot any animals and we only got out of the car once to see a koala.
To that I would add that our tour was booked for 8pm and no one informed us that the tour left at 8.30pm so we spent half an hour contacting viator to find out if we had been dropped off or not.
The guide Luca you can see that he is very competent but perhaps a little particular. We did the tour with another Italian family including two children, I found it perhaps a little inappropriate that he used swear words or talked about farmers suicides without assessing with parents whether it was appropriate.
Even with the other guests he showed great impatience when making remarks not in line with his point of view, being all Italian we exchanged a few words but he interrupted and monopolized the discussion.
He showed himself at the end clearly intolerant of the guests so much so that when sighting the animals in a group and we reported him to stop this stopped even stopped to show us the animals.
In conclusion, the tour does exactly what is written but considering that if you rented a car on kangaroo island you can do the exact same thing yourself since the animals at night are all over the island, the price paid for a drive is really out of place. If we add to that that the only thing to do on the tour was to give ourselves torches and guarantee everyone the vision of the animals you will understand that these things clearly did not happen.

Caro Francesco,

Excellent nocturnal wildlife trip with lots of sightings
We had an excellent nocturnal wildlife spotting trip with Luca. We saw possums, wallabies, Roos, a koala and penguins. Luca is very knowledgeable and made it a very interesting evening. We would highly recommend as you need his keen eye to spot some of these elusive creatures.
