History, Haunts, & Hahas! is a small, local, mom-owned business specializing in Ghost Forensics, Ethical Storytelling, Comic Relief, and the Human Behind the Haunting. Southern Spirit Stroll combines a haunted history walk and ghost tour with hidden history, folklore, architecture, and paranormal curiosity. Rather than repeating recycled ghost stories, we explore the real people, events, and historical clues behind Charleston's legends and reported hauntings. Guests learn how to distinguish documented history from folklore, evaluate paranormal claims, recognize common misidentifications such as pareidolia and photographic artifacts, and follow the historical breadcrumbs hiding in plain sight. Small groups and adaptable conversations encourage curiosity and critical thinking. Limited EMF readers may be available. Stories are shared from public spaces outside landmarks and historic sites; admission is not included. Ghost activity can never be guaranteed.
Guests meet at 160 Church Street nearest the patio-side of Tommy Condon's Irish Pub. The tour will kick off from there in order to have a predictable start and end location.
Exterior historic stop discussing fires, rebuilding efforts, graveyard stories, and Charleston hauntings.
Historic alleyway stop discussing Charleston commerce, waterfront history, smuggling, and local ghost lore.
Exterior storytelling stop featuring pirate history, Revolutionary War imprisonment, and Charleston paranormal legends.
Exterior historical stop exploring Charleston law, corruption, crime, politics, and ghost lore in the heart of downtown.
Exterior storytelling stop featuring Charleston history, famous ghost stories, and legends connected to the historic pink hotel. Local lore suggests the hotel may experience residual hauntings where past events appear to replay like a loop in time. Some guests report seeing figures running up and down the stairs carrying buckets while others describe well dressed partygoers wandering the hallways as if returning from a long ago celebration. Another figure is sometimes reported who looks strikingly familiar though visitors often realize he is not the person they first thought he resembled. This location may be seen along the route depending on the evenings path. No specific stops are guaranteed and ghost activity cannot be guaranteed.
Historic stop discussing Charleston religious history, graveyard folklore, and reported paranormal activity. Stories are told from outside of the gate, and we do not enter the graveyard.
Exterior storytelling stop featuring colonial warfare, explosions, disasters, and paranormal lore surrounding Charleston’s oldest public building.
Atmospheric alleyway stop associated with Charleston folklore, duels, violence, and ghost stories.

Viator Review We had a great experience on this family-friendly ghost tour of Charleston! At first, some of the ghost stories were a little too spooky for our sensitive 9-year-old daughter, so we asked our guide if she could pivot a bit toward the historical and educational side of Charleston. She was so gracious about it and completely adjusted the tour to make sure everyone in our family was comfortable and having a good time. We were blown away by how knowledgeable she was! She knew so much about Charleston’s history and had such a wonderful way of bringing it to life and keeping both us and our kids interested. She was incredibly thorough, personable, kind, and genuinely fun to spend time with. You could really tell that she loves Charleston and loves sharing its history with people. She even went over our scheduled time, which was completely above and beyond. And then, as an unexpected little bonus, she ended up stopping with us to see the horses because she knew our daughter loved them. It was such a sweet and thoughtful gesture, and it was the perfect way to end the evening!
Vannah was absolutely fabulous! She had a bubbly, enthusiastic energy and wasn’t dry at all. The EMF detectors were a huge plus—other groups were audibly jealous of how much fun we were having with ours! The ghost tour itself was filled with a great balance of history, science, and great breakdowns of why the places were haunted. Vannah is passionate about her work and really tried to nail down her research instead of just reciting what she found on Wikipedia. Well worth the money. Support this local small business, you won’t be disappointed!
Our tour with Vannah was great! She was so friendly and welcoming, and clearly was very knowledgeable about Charleston's history and the spirits we might encounter. We would highly recommend her!

We had an amazing tour with Vannah, she is obviously a ghost nerd and loves her job. Despite the heat, she dressed in full 18th century fashion and ushered us through the night in search of ghosts. We were fully equipped with ghost finder EMF detectors to locate changes in electromagnetic field and find potential ghosts . Her storytelling was based in fact and she offered thoughtful insight into the people who lived in the homes centuries ago. She gave our group souvenir hats. She went over and above in every way, and I highly recommend her and her company!
