My son and I traveled to Naples for three days specifically to see Herculaneum and Pompeii as he is studying classical languages and is very interested in classical civilisation. Our tour of Pompeii with Livio did not disappoint. As a classicist himself, he was full of detail about the history of the site, the influences leading to its establishment and the life of city in 79AD. The site was so impressive and a stark contrast to what we had seen in Herculaneum a day earlier. Livio was brilliant at highlighting the differences, explaining the rationale behind them and pinpointing the evidence to support what he had said. The site is teeming with visitors but Livio was also great at timing our entrances and exits to give us the best views with minimal crush. Please note that 2.5 hours is not nearly enough time to do justice to the site. If you don't go at the height of the summer and really want to see the site in depth, I definitely recommend a day. We will have to come back. We will definitely be using Herculaneum Tours again.
