I went to see a matinee performance of Sinatra on Thurs 20th August. I went with a friend of mine, and we were knocked out. It really is a truly wonderful show! The story tells of Sinatra’s rise and fall… and then of his Academy award in 1954 which saw him rise yet again. Don’t listen to the negative criticism. Rather, gauge the reaction of the people, like the two NHS ladies I met in the bar, who, like most everyone else thought that Joel Harper-Jackson did a great job playing Frank Sinatra. I do so love the Aldwych Theatre with its Georgian-style plasterwork in crimson and gold. Great atmosphere. Wonderful staff. I’ll certainly be returning during my teacher-holiday again late next August for a matinee whatever’s playing.
"Sinatra: The Musical" told the story of Frank's fall from grace in the 1940s and his subsequent comeback. Of course, it included 20 of Sinatra's hit songs. His youngest daughter, Tina, was involved with the production since she wanted the world to see the real man who was her father. She gave access to a lot of archive material to the writer. Joel Harper-Jackson did a great job playing Frank Sinatra. The encore was a rousing version of "New York, New York". A nice night's entertainment!
Having seen some average reviews, I was slightly concerned but I shouldn’t have been. The musical tells the story of Frank’s early years. It touches on his darker sides (the mob, his drinking etc) but no more than that, any more wouldn’t have been entertaining. The staging, costumes, singing and dancing were excellent. Joel Harper-Jackson doesn’t try to impersonate Frank (as nobody can do that) but he’s terrific and carries the lead role brilliantly. The only slight disappointment was that his most iconic song, My Way, wasn’t done in full however the finale made up for it and New York New York got the whole audience on their feet. A wonderfully entertaining show in a beautiful theatre. Ignore the sniffy critics and go to see it if you can.
We went to see the new musical Sinatra at The Aldwych theatre and really loved it. We thought the quality of the acting and singing was excellent. The storyline was well told. The ticket price was quite high for front stalls, but TodayTix always have offers at some point and have a fantastic Ticket Protection policy. The Aldwych theatre is a traditional style theatre with wonderful features. And air conditioning. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.
Great show from start to finish, close your eyes you would think sinatra was in the room, show was amazing, great story, grest acting ,great vocals, highly reccomend this show.
