Great story telling of actual events and history in Savannah. Thanks for doing your research and sharing the darker side of the truth.

We pride ourselves on fact-based history. That's why we don't give ghost tours. Savannah has so much dark history that we don't need to make up any! This tour begins with a brutal duel that took place in a bar that still exists to this day. We'll move on to discuss Savannah's first murder. You'll see the site of the colony's first cemetery and the grave of a Native who was crucial to Georgia's success. We'll visit the location where a more recent serial killer met a victim, then discuss Colonial Park Cemetery's past and present. Savannah saw a great deal of tragedy during the Revolution, and you'll learn about the toll it took. We'll tie things up at the site of a killing that ironically put Savannah on the pop culture map and helped lead to its booming tourist industry today. Please note that though some local ghost tours have recently rebranded themselves as "dark history" tours, we are the original! This is Savannah's only fact-based evening tour.

Great story telling of actual events and history in Savannah. Thanks for doing your research and sharing the darker side of the truth.
Phenomenal experience! Skip the ghost stories and do this.If you want real history, book the True Dark History Tour. Our guide, Shirley, was remarkably knowledgeable and a fantastic storyteller. I deeply appreciated that she could answer any question effortlessly without ever making things up. It was refreshing to take a genuine history tour rather than a ghost tour. Shirley made the experience unforgettable!
The tour was much more history-dense than we were expecting. True history buffs may really enjoy the level of detail, but for us it felt a little like having a history book read aloud. There were so many names, dates, and details coming at us that it was hard to follow or retain much of anything. We were hoping for an engaging, accessible introduction to Savannah’s history—one that used stories and context to help bring the history to life, including the more difficult parts of Savannah’s past. Instead, the presentation felt very academic and wasn’t particularly engaging or enjoyable to listen to. We felt more like we were prepping for a Savannah history test than experiencing the city and learning about its history. We ended up leaving about halfway through, and unfortunately I couldn’t tell you a single fact I learned. Probably a good fit for serious history enthusiasts, but if you’re a casual visitor looking for an engaging overview of Savannah’s history, this may not be the right tour.
We're sorry you did not enjoy the tour. You're not wrong - Our tours are the city's most comprehensive, and we wrote them for folks who want to immerse themselves in history. It sounds like you may have enjoyed our Orientation Tour or Savannah History 101 Tour better. We'd love to have you look into those next time you're in town.
Fantastic walking tour - in-depth material - well researched - and presented with flair. Highly recommended. By far best tour available on the night!
We took a tour with Savannah True History Tours and had a wonderful time! Unlike standard sensationalized ghost walks, our guide provided deeply researched, factual history that brought the squares and historic homes to life without the false hype. Highly engaging, professional, and well worth the time and money. Five stars!"
We enjoyed this tour. Shirley was very knowledgeable. I will say that I think we were too focused on finding a tour with true history that we ended up with one that wasn’t super exciting. It seemed that some of the other tour groups we passed were more lively than ours. This tour is a good option if your group is mellow and just wants history.
Wow what a fun tour! As a history nerd this scratched all the itches I hoped it would when visiting Savannah. I never imagined so much Revolutionary War history would be featured so that was a pleasant surprise! It is quite a walk so maybe save this for a day you don’t have any other walking tours - learn from my personal mistakes haha. That said, even with dead-tired limbs I enjoyed every second of this one! 100/10!!!
Information was very well researched & tour guide was entertaining. During the summer it is very warm & muggy so be prepared.
If you are looking for a fact-based history tour and not a ghost tour than this is for you. Brandon, our guide, is so passionate about history and that he left his career as an attorney to operate Savannah's Original Dark History Tours. He is very enthusiastic and not only loves sharing his very detailed knowledge of Savannah's history but feels visitors should have the opportunity to go on a nighttime tour to hear the facts about Savannah's dark history rather than having only tours that are fun but not necessarily fiction-based to choose from. Our tour, with a small group of 5, began promptly at 7:30. At each stop Brandon provided us with a plethora of information and was always willing to answer any questions that we had. Brandon's excitement about the history occasionally caused him to talk a little too fast but he was always happy to repeat if asked. About halfway through the tour, we stopped at a local pub and wine bar for those interested in purchasing a drink to bring along on the remainder of the tour. One of the bars provided free popcorn and bottled water we available as well. I could have booked the tour directly through the Savannah's Original Dark History Tour ( which I typically prefer to do) but booked through Tripadvisor because with their current promotion although the price per person was the same but I did not have to pay sales tax. I recommend this tour 100% !
Our tour guide James was great! He was entertaining and it was clear he’s passionate about Savannah history. We loved the walking route and the history info. It was fun listening to our guide debunk several Savannah legends and learning the truth. Would recommend this tour to others that are looking for the facts.
