Really good. The place was crazy packed, but the show was great. I forgot how questionable the show way we saw. But that is not the theater's issue.

Description
The Salzburg Marionette Theater has charmed countless children and adults for a century, and has become famous throughout the world. Since 2016 it is has been included in the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The performance technique of the Salzburg Marionette Theater has been declared a cultural asset worthy of preservation, as the "most highly developed form of puppet and figure theatre." In this unique baroque auditorium, they present operas, including Mozart's Magic Flute, as well as, the Salzburg classic The Sound of Music, Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet, and Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream or Saint-Exupéry's The Little Prince. Children for sure will like Peter and the Wolf or Rumpelstiltskin. This is for one admission ticket to see the show of choice, that is available. Transportation and other accommodations not included.

In this unique baroque audience hall with 350 seats there have been operas, musicals, plays and fairytales that have occurred here such as: The Nutcracker - Tchaikowskys fantastic ballet, staged here for young and old. Explanations in German and English. Duration: 1 hour 35 minutes. The Salzburg Marionette Theatre employs 12 puppeteers, trained in a wide variety of trades and professions. Qualities common to all of them are musicality, manual skill, and the ability to emphathise with the various characters in order to bring alive the marionettes on the stage. The Salzburg Marionette Theatre has evolved its own technique, which is used as a model by many marionette theatres worldwide. The puppeteers’ training, which takes place exclusively in the theatre itself, demands just as much time and perseverance as learning to play a musical instrument. A brilliant rendition of The Nutcracker
It should be remembered that these puppets are quite small and therefore the stage is small. We were in row nine and wouldn't wish to be any further away. The puppeteers are exceptionally talented and the venue is easy to access.

Just magical!
Oh gosh where do I start?! My husband and I went to see the Nutcracker here last night and were absolutely blown away. It was just so magical and like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. The theatre itself is so gorgeous and there are lots of puppet exhibits to see in the foyer. The show itself was wonderful and I am in awe of the puppeteers- I have no clue how they do what they do - it’s actual magic! What a skill ! This really was a highlight of our stay in Salzburg and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Amazing! Do not miss it!
It was so good! Kid friendly for every age. If you sit in the back, you have some pillows that kids can sit on so they can see the show. It has an intermission in the middle. Just be aware that I thought it was sold out, but actually there were still plenty of seats; just purchase them online in the official theater's website.

Must-see show in Salzburg
Fantastic show. The second act, especially, showed off the talents of the puppeteers. Our family of six adults left the show with smiles.would love to come back and see The Sound of Music.

The Nutcraker - simply cracking
I'm so glad I found this place online. As luck would have it they were doing a performance of Der Nussknacker the night I arrived in Salzburg and surprisingly they posted my ticket to me in the UK. The Marionetten Theatre is very easy to find with lots of memorabelia to look at though I pretty much headed straight in to me seat. The performance was basically miraculous - how do they do it!! There was a transalation of the story projected on the wall at the start of each half, and then you watch each scene unfold, the movement of the puppets is so realistic. So many ovations at the end and when the top curtain goes up you get to see the amazing puppeteers. I would say definitely go and see a performance - you wont regret it.

Amazing unique experience!
We took our three teenagers to the Nutcracker at the Marionette Theatre. We didn’t know what to expect but the show was fabulous! The puppeteers are so skilful and it felt like the puppets really came to life. Definitely recommend.
