A great dip underground through the many layers of Roman history. A hotel - previously cinema above an early modern trash site to medieval ruins to a pool fueled by the ancient aqueduct going back further than the empire and republic. Its a nice place to see just how many layers are still hidden beneath modern Rome and what an important role water had, how it shaped the city and who got to live where as well as a small peak into daily life of all social classes from speculated senators to the slaves serving them. Our guide was very engaging and shared a lot of knowledge in this short time yet it was easy to follow and not rushed and very memorable! The trevi fountain despite being overcrowded is impressive to see up-front so the combined access to that is very nice. Ontop of the tour being great, the company also was very helpful when we ran into some issues (caused by ourselves) and accommodated us for which we are super grateful! Glad to not have missed out on this hidden gem ♡
The underground water cistern was discovered in 1999. Fascinating. Then you have the local explanation of the Trevor fountain and the tickets to get close to it (where it’s not overcrowded at the front and blocked by instagrammers).
I brought some foreign colleagues visiting Rome to this timeless place, and they were enchanted by this hidden gem. The guide, whose name I believe was Noemi, was truly wonderful and full of interesting information. A real surprise!
Interesting to See, But Overpriced and Misleading The site itself is interesting and certainly worth having a quick look around, and I do want to say that our guide was very knowledgeable and clearly knew the history well. Unfortunately, though, we found the 45-minute guided tour far too long for what is actually a very small site. There simply isn’t enough to see to justify stretching the experience out for that length of time, and towards the end it really started to drag. During our tour, several people who hadn't booked the guided experience came down, spent around 10 minutes looking around and then left. Having experienced the full tour, we honestly felt that 10–20 minutes would have been more than enough time to appreciate the site. Our biggest disappointment was the way the experience appeared to be linked to the Trevi Fountain when booking. We went in expecting a much stronger connection to the fountain itself, but that really wasn't the case. We therefore felt that the description was somewhat misleading and created expectations that the actual experience didn't meet. For the price we paid, we unfortunately didn't feel it represented particularly good value for money. A shorter tour at a considerably lower price would have felt much more appropriate. It's interesting to see once, and our guide deserves credit for being knowledgeable, but we wouldn't pay to do it again. If you're visiting, I would recommend checking exactly what the experience includes before booking, particularly if you're expecting it to be directly connected to the Trevi Fountain.

Andrea is a very knowledgeable guide who speaks excellent English, and has a knack for explaining complex things so the average Joe can understand them. She was pleasant and polite, never rushing us, and I learned a great deal about history! This was a first-rate experience and an intro to the wonders of the ancient civilization of Rome.

Naomi was the most amazing guide. She truly brought Rome to life for us through the most entertaining tour of history. I can’t believe the value of the experience especially somewhere cooler on a hot day in Rome. Then to have skip the line basically tickets to Trevi Fountain made our trip to Rome complete. We didn’t have a ton of time with our cruise ship tour - even if we had I suggest we would have learned more in an hour with Naomi than any other tour we could pick. She’s exceptionally knowledgeable and tells the history in a way that is so entertaining. You won’t see Trevi Fountain the same way after this tour and that’s important. There is so much more to know about the brilliance that created the aqueducts — you will appreciate it so much more doing this first. And to top it all off she provided incredible details about the design of the fountain we would have missed. History and art come to life with Naomi - we cannot recommend this tour highly enough!!!
Very warm, archeoligical museum under the Trivi with guide was a nice experience, tour hop on hop off is recommended
Guide was knowledgable and professional, and we enjoyed the history of the underground water systems. The area around the Trevi Fountain itself was rammed, but nevertheless still impressive - especially close-up. Shame some people are not willing to settle for a selfie, but rather have arived dressed up and partaking in a social media photo-shoot. We visited the previous evening as well which was nice (and free).
You can hear what Rebecca is saying but can’t always get through the crowd to see what she’s talking about. Still, better than just fighting the crowds outside to take a picture at the fountain.
pay for the ticket in advance to avoid the line avoid the mid-afternoon it is too hot The fountain is a marble marvel
