Rome Catacombs & Capuchin Crypts Group Tour with Transfers

Description
Rome keeps some of its most gripping history underground, and this tour takes you straight to it with an expert guide and round-trip transport from the city center. You start among the bone-lined chapels of the Capuchin Crypts, where the remains of generations of friars form haunting displays, then ride out along the ancient Appian Way, passing the Aurelian Walls and the Circus Maximus. Underground again, you follow dim corridors through one of Rome's early Christian catacombs, tracing frescoed chambers and tombs once reserved for martyrs and popes. Your guide fills in the stories behind each site, so you leave with a real sense of how the early Christian world took shape beneath the city. Pick the version that fits you best: join the group tour with catacombs and crypts, choose a catacombs-only express visit, go after hours when the sites are quiet, or book a private tour with hotel pickup and extra stops.

Itinerary
Meet your guide in central Rome in front of the Fontana del Tritone. After a short introduction, your small group sets off for a day beneath the city.
Just a short walk away, descend beneath the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione into the Capuchin Crypts. With an audio guide, explore chapels lined with the bones of generations of friars and learn how these displays reflect a long monastic tradition. (Not included on the Express Tour)
Settle into a private van and ride toward the catacombs on the edge of the city. Along the way, your guide points out the ancient Appian Way, the towering Aurelian Walls, and the grassy sweep of the Circus Maximus.
Head underground into one of Rome's early Christian catacombs, following narrow corridors past frescoed chambers and burial niches once reserved for martyrs and popes. Your guide traces the stories of the worshippers who gathered here in secret.
Hop in your van for a smooth ride back into central Rome. You will be conveniently dropped off at the original meeting point for the tour, making it easy to grab a bite or connect to public transportation.

The tour was great. Arvin was very informative and a great guide. He kept the tour on time and moving. The transport was comfortable. All round it was a great experience and enjoyed by all.
Excellent experience. The guide was amazing!!!
Our tour was outstanding thanks to both guides. She shared thoughtful stories while he added rich historical detail. Together, they made the experience engaging, respectful, and truly memorable. Highly recommended
I found this tour to be a very spiritual experience. From viewing the skulls etc in the crypts to then going in to the Catacombs to view the last resting places of both the Christians and the Romans. It gave a great insight in to how the dead were laid to rest and also to the different levels of their burials - i.e some very elaborate and others very basic.
Very good Tour I would recommend- the Tour Guide was very good. The tour was interesting and on time.
Elaria (I hope I spelled her name right) was a great tour guide, she was very knowledgeable and had great English as well. Would definitely recommend.
Five stars for tour guide Marco who stood where he said he would be even before the meeting time, and stayed afterwards to answer questions, even though it was a holiday. We didn't need our sweatshirts for the underground catacombs because it was 90 f , 37 c aboveground. The in-between driver was aggressive, but we rode in a luxurious Maybach van. Read the itinerary, because there are multiple destinations involved. We were allowed in the buildings with shorts, though the signage indicated that you needed to have your knees and shoulders covered. There are the crypts and the catacombs separately, whereas we expected a single location which was like both.
A very enjoyable tour of the Rome Catacombs and Capuchin Crypts. Our Australian tour guide was excellent — she was very informative, friendly and attentive, and did a great job of looking after the group throughout. The Capuchin Crypts were particularly interesting to see and definitely made this a memorable experience. The transfers to the Catacombs and back were comfortable and well organised. A great tour if you want to see something different in Rome, and also a good way to escape the heat for a few hours. Highly recommended!
Great for families with teens... history with a bit of the macabre. The catacombs' scale is truly breathtaking, and the bone-decorated Capuchin Crypts add an eerie contrast. Highly recommend for a memorable, off-the-beaten-path Rome experience.
This is a really worthwhile activity to do in Rome! Especially if the weather is hot - fascinating history!
