Although its finest forms are made in the vineyards of Veneto, this wine originates from the small town of Prosecco in Friuli Venezia Giulia, near the city of Trieste and the Slovenian border. The Glera grape is grown in the village of Prosecco, now a suburb of Trieste, which is where Prosecco was originally conceived. Join us on our tour and you will delve into the well-kept secret that is the beauty of the region. On the tour you will have the chance to discover this under-explored region, hear all about the history of Prosecco and appreciate the most historically significant vineyards, before visiting one exceptional winery to try some of the most renowned sparkling wine in all of Italy.

Our tour will carry on to the medieval village of Štanjel, which was one of the first communities in the Karst Region, loved for its ancient village centre and its awe-inspiring sweeping vistas. Štanjel sits atop a scenic hill, where you can easily see some its most famous structures. The castle complex, defence walls, Church of St. Daniel, surrounding village and the Ferrari Garden are the most notable architectural points of the old settlement. The village has changed in appearance over the centuries, but it has always maintained the spirit of the Karst. The town gets its name from the patron Saint Daniel, offering an interesting cultural heritage. During both world wars, Štanjel was uniquely influenced by architect and mayor at the time, Maks Fabiani. He preserved the essence of the village while using his creative finesse to rejuvenate the newly-renovated public structures. Fabiani’s most notable work in Štanjel involved the restoration of Ferrari Villa and the design of the extraordinary Ferrari Garden park, lauded as the most significant park landscaping in Slovenia from the inter-war period.

Wonderful night! Klin vinyards
Katrina, our guide was also the owner of her own vinyard called Klin! Very interesting lady she actually went to school to become an architect and gave it all up to work her land. Very interesting history about the Prosecco this region she lives in particular and the history of her region and how it relates to the Slovenian and Italian history. Wonderful charcuterie, and lovely wines. She doesn’t sell commercially. I would definitely come back if I’m in the region to get some more we appreciated her, sharing her knowledge and her lovely Vinyard with us.!

Not Proseco- but extremely enjoyable tour
The title is deceiving- it is t a proseco tour but our tour guide was fabulous. Left my glasses on the mini van- would like to know how to contact driver

The best unexpected tour we’ve ever done!
This tour was fantastic. It was not what we initially expected but exceeded our expectations by a long shot. First, we had a great guide, Stephan. He was super knowledgeable, funny, accommodating, and entertaining. The trip was about 6 hours total with multiple stops, it was nice having a smaller group, felt more intimate and less touristy. We stopped at the lighthouse in Trieste and then drove up the cliff to Tempio Mariano and took in the views from this gorgeous church. We then drove through the village of prosecco and headed towards Slovenia. Stopped in multiple villages and took in the local culture. Then ended at a winery where we tasted multiple Slovenian wines and enjoyed a tasty charcuterie board with local meats and cheeses. We then ventured back to Trieste city center. Our guide was so kind and stopped in the village of prosecco so we could take a picture with the sign. Cannot recommend this trip and Stephan enough, it truly made our experience in Trieste an 11/10!

Misleading tour name and program.
If you want to visit the town of Prosecco and have a glass of Prosecco you will be disappointed. Cannot recommend this diaspointing, poorly organized and overpriced tour.

The tour was delivered in accordance with the published itinerary.
In your correspondence after the tour, you stated that you were not interested in the history, geography, culture of the region, or local wines, despite these being core elements of the experience and clearly described in the tour description.
You also stated that Ferrari Garden was not accessible to you because you were unable to climb the hill. However, both Štanjel and Ferrari Garden are clearly listed in the itinerary, with Štanjel specifically described as a scenic hilltop village.
After the tour, you requested a full refund based primarily on aspects of the itinerary that were disclosed before booking and delivered as advertised. After the refund request was declined, you stated: "If this is not possible we will all write negative reviews."

Recommended Tour
This is a small group tour to historic towns. The difference is the wine tasting. The charcuterie board of food to go with the wine tasting was fabulous and very delious.
The afternoon was not rush and we were able to enjoy the wine that we were sampling.

Review of Piran Tour as Prosecco/Karst one was cancelled last minute
I didn't actually end up on this tour as it was cancelled at the last minute. I ended up on the Piran tour instead. The Piran tour was very good and our guide, Dana was excellent. However, I definitely would not recommend booking a tour with Koper Tours. I tried contacting them numerous times in the week before our tour for a meeting time and was consistently ignored. I was finally given a meeting time by a Viator customer service assistant who called them on my behalf but then a day later I received the message saying my tour was cancelled. Really shocking customer service. Not even sure why the tour was cancelled but I'm sure they could have let me know before they did!

Great relaxing tour
Ernest was wonderful
He picked us up at our hotel since it was a small group and we appreciated it.
He gave us great history of area and Slovenia
We went to a local winery and did a barrel taste which is so rare if you do wine tasting.
Of course wine tasting was more like a glass of wine
Of which a great selection plus the local charcuterie

Food and wine with a view!
Scenery, wine and food! Our trip around the Karst region was wonderful and I highly recommend. The tour took us to the Santuario di Monte Grisa, on the top of the hill, Great stop and not something I had thought of doing. then over to the town of Stanjel, amazing views, gardens and lovely area. very relaxing lastly was a bountiful lunch at Vina Kobal. featuring fresh meats and numerous wine tastings. truly delicous was the red sparkling wine! Highly recommend that day tour. Ernest was delightful and knowledgeable. All around pleasure of a day!

Take this trip!
We had the best tour guide, Ernest. He loves his country and shared his passion with us. We saw beautiful Slovenia with him. Wine tasting in Slovenia was also wonderful in Steljac
