Our private cooking experience with Margarita Chaim was truly one of the highlights of our time in Mexico City. From the moment Margarita welcomed my wife and me into her beautiful home, we felt less like customers attending a class and more like honored guests visiting an old friend. Margarita’s warmth, generosity, and passion for Mexican cuisine made the entire experience incredibly special. Rather than simply watching her cook, we worked alongside her, learning the techniques, ingredients, and traditions behind each authentic dish. Everything we prepared was absolutely delicious, and sharing the finished meal together—accompanied by wonderful wine and lively conversation—made the afternoon feel intimate, personal, and completely unforgettable. What sets this experience apart is Margarita herself. She is gracious, knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely interested in the people she welcomes into her home. She created an atmosphere where we could relax, laugh, learn, and connect with Mexican culture in a way that no restaurant or conventional cooking class could possibly replicate. My wife and I left with full stomachs, wonderful memories, and a much deeper appreciation for the food and hospitality of Mexico. If you are looking for an authentic, meaningful, and truly personal experience in Mexico City, spending an afternoon cooking with Margarita is an absolute must. We cannot recommend her highly enough.

Margarita is a brilliant chef, teacher, and person. She was so welcoming and thoughtful. She was so engaging with our two young kids (ages 5.5 and 3 years). It was an incredible experience!

Margarita was an amazing host and we had a cooking lesson at her very beautiful house. She showed us how to make a full course meal including how to make a lovely sauce as well as a very simple but delicous dessert. She also gave us some wine while we ate which was a lovely Mexican White wine. The process was easy to follow and we plan to use almost everything we learned again to cook back home. I would highly recommend her and thank you Margarita for showing us a lovely time.

Her home is beautiful and located in a lovely part of the city, creating the perfect setting for an authentic and memorable afternoon. From the moment we arrived, Margarita was warm, attentive, and highly professional. More than just a cooking class, this felt like an invitation into Mexican culture and family life. Being welcomed into her home gave us the opportunity to learn not only about Mexican cuisine, but also about the traditions, values, and stories that surround it. Margarita answered all of our questions thoughtfully and made sure everyone in our group had the chance to participate. She was especially wonderful with the kids, involving them throughout the process and teaching techniques in a way that was both engaging and easy to understand. Margarita thoughtfully accommodated our dietary needs and tailored the menu to our group. For our class, we prepared sopes, cactus salad, chicken mole, Mexican white rice, and a delicious guava dessert. Every dish was flavorful, easy to recreate at home, and offered insight into traditional Mexican cooking. Her attention to detail was exceptional, and she shared countless tips and techniques that we will continue to use long after our vacation. There is a wonderful balance between cooking, learning, relaxing, and enjoying the food you prepare together. It never felt rushed, and we appreciated having time to savor both the meal and the experience. By the end of the afternoon, we felt as though we had spent time with a friend rather than simply attended a cooking class. Margarita’s kindness, generosity, and passion for sharing her culture made this one of the highlights of our trip. We would gladly do this again on a future visit to Mexico City.

Margarita was a wonderful instructor and incredibly engaging. We cooked a full dinner with appetizers, main course, sides and dessert. The 2 salsas prepared beat anything we can buy in the states, and so simple. Getting to know her and cooking alongside her was a highlight of our stay.

Margarita gave our group a fantastic and authentic experience! We loved the market tour, cooking in her gorgeous home, enjoying the beautiful meal, and chatting together. Every detail was thoughtful and perfectly executed.

Great cooking class with Margarita! We cooked 3 different dishes and they were all so good! The dishes were simple to make so definitely can make them at home as well.

My sister and I had a great time cooking with Margarita! She was kind, knowledgeable, and organized! The food we made was delicious and made from simple ingredients that we can find at home!

We had a great time with Margarita. She was very warm and welcoming and taught us a lot about Mexican food. We had a great time chatting while we cooked, and she knew a lot about the history of the food not just the techniques needed to prepare it, which we found very interesting. She was very accommodating with the dietary requirements we had too (one vegan, one non-vegan). She had chosen recipes which were vegan, but could easily have some cheese or cream added if wanted. I think all of the food was gluten free too (not that we asked for it, I think it just so happened by chance). We made three courses in total: sopes, chiles rellenos with mexican rice, and poached guava. She had prepared some of the stuff already, such as cooking the mushrooms for the chiles filling, which was good as it helped us focus on the stuff that was new and it meant we had time to do all three courses. She has a lovely, peaceful garden where we chatted and ate the food we made, and her husband even joined for the final part which was also very nice! We wholeheartedly would recommend the experience!

Margarita was very communicative and made sure we knew how to get there. Margarita has a beautiful home. She sat down and talked with us before starting. She explained all the recipes at the beginning and everything was well organized. She gave us the information for each dish and everything was tasty. These are recipes we may not have tried on our own. My sister and niece have never tried a cooking class in someone’s home and agreed it was a unique experience! She had us promise to make the dishes at home and also gave us alternative ways to change the dishes up. We also received restaurant recommendations for Mexico City which we appreciated! We are ready to tackle the menu at home!
