Itinerary
Taiizan Kotokuin Shojosenji, or Kōtoku-in is a Jōdo-shū Buddhist temple in the city of Kamakura in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The temple is renowned for its "Great Buddha", a monumental outdoor bronze statue of Amida Buddha, which is one of the most famous icons of Japan
This temple was built in 14th century and has a beautiful bamboo forest. This temple is something different from other temples in Kamakura
This temple was built in the 8th century and it has a nice Japanese garden, statues of Buddha, view of the Pacific Ocean and a unique cave shrine. In June and July, the hydrangea is so beautiful
Only a short train ride west of Kamakura, Enoshima (江の島) is a pleasantly touristy island just off the coast but connected by bridge with the mainland. The island offers a variety of attractions, including a shrine, park, observation tower and caves. Views of Mount Fuji can be enjoyed on days with good visibility. Enoshima is divided into a yacht harbor and a forested hill which can only be explored on foot (and paid escalators) and contains most of the sights. Several shrine buildings, collectively known as Enoshima Shrine, are found around the island and are dedicated to Benten, a popular goddess of good fortune, wealth, music and knowledge. Benten is believed to have created Enoshima before subduing a five headed dragon that was terrorizing the area.

Fabi was a very professional & informative driver. He had a great sense of humor & made the day fun. We loved the historical sites we visited & the culture they portrayed.
Our tour did not have a guide or photographer! The morning started badly with no one to meet us in the reception of our hotel. After phone calls and emails we were connected with our driver, who we wrongly assumed was our guide. We discovered at our first stop that he knew nothing about the sites we were to visit and that he was only the driver, the guide had not shown up. So extremely disappointing as we had paid over $1,000 Au$ for what we thought would be an insight into the places visited. We complained to Viator and did receive a 30% refund., however I believe this is unsatisfactory. I have since read a google review where someone else had the same experience
Extremely disappointed . Our tour had no guide or photographer just a driver who knew nothing about the sights. The morning started badly with no guide at reception of our hotel , after phone calls the driver who we assumed was the guide made contact. We got underway and then realised he was just a driver. We had paid over $1000 for our family group of 5 . The value of the tour was having someone explain everything . I complained to Viator who refunded me 30%. I do not feel this is fair compensation . I also read a google review where the same thing happened to another customer. Do not book this tour
We did this tour in April 2024 with our guide Mukarram and really enjoyed it. We first went Kamakura and then to Enoshima, where we had lunch at a very good tempura restaurant (Mukarram helped us order). Enoshima interesting place as surfing is very popular there. Mukarram was punctual for our morning pickup, his van was comfortable and clean. Just a note: There is no "photographer" but Mukarram was happy to take some photos of us!
While the location of the tour was great, this definitely was not a guided tour without the expectation of having a photographer. Basically, you get a driver for the day. The driver was nice but very quiet and not familiar with the history of the area or the locations we were going to. On the ride home he was looking at his phone while driving which was nerve wracking. He did bring an umbrella for us when it was raining. He also didn't rush us and was on time. Based on the name of the tour I think would expect a guide with knowledge of the area. Not sure why they don't just advertise it as a driving service.
Our guide was knowledgeable and fun to be with. He made the tour very enjoyable for all the f us. Xxxxx
Sub was a Great driver very knowledgable and friendly.Happy to adjust schedule times to our liking. The itinerary was better than expected.Arrived back at our hotel on time despite the joys of Tokyo traffic
My wife and I were lucky to have Sebastian as our tour guide. He’s English and Japanese is superb! He drove us safely around the Kamakura area. Kamakura is so rich with history and Sebastian was remarkable in providing details. He knows its history and we really appreciated how he explained the difference between Shinto Shrine and Buddhist Temple. He gave us enough time to explore the area during lunchtime just to ourselves too! We went to see the The Big Budha in Kotoku-in Temple. We saw hundreds of Small Buddha in Hasa-dera Temple. We walked around the Bamboo Gardens in Hokokuji Shrine, this place is so serene. We also stopped at the High steps of Tsurugaoka Shrine and had pictures with hundreds of empty Barrels of Sake in display at Hachimangu Shrine. Our last stop before heading back to Tokyo is Enoshima Island. On the way there we drove by the coast beach of Inamuragasaki, but it was gloomy that day Mount Fuji can’t be seen but it was still nice to have some breeze from Vitamin Sea of Japan. And with all these sights seeing, Sebastian took beautiful pictures of us. Thanks so much Sebastian for this splendid experience.
Our tour guide Shoaib was knowledgeable giving us the background about each attraction and yet allowing us to explore the area on our own terms. Wonderful sites.
I am happy to have had the chance to visit the temples with my guide Johny. I am traveling alone and this company booked me rapidly and filled my expectations for a tour through the spiritual and cultural side of Japan.
