We had an amazing experience with Agave Adventures, and our guide Edgar was a big part of what made the day so enjoyable. He was respectful, informative, and funny, and he treated us extremely well throughout the entire tour. He made us feel comfortable and made the experience feel more like spending the day with a friend than just being on a tour.
We visited Cava de Oro, explored the town of Tequila, and had lunch at Casa Sauza, where we had some of the best food of our entire trip. Casa Sauza’s on-site restaurant is part of the historic hacienda and focuses on Mexican cuisine. We finished the day at the famous Cantaritos El Güero, which was a perfect way to end the experience.
Edgar did a great job explaining the tequila-making process while keeping everything fun and interesting. From the distillery to the food, the town, and the cantaritos, the entire day was an experience we’ll remember. We definitely recommend Agave Adventures, and if you get Edgar as your guide, you’re in great hands!

A private tequila tour that felt like spending the day with a knowledgeable local friend
We had an outstanding experience with Agave Adventures and our guide, Jesse.
From the moment we booked the tour, Jesse’s communication was excellent. He reached out weeks in advance, provided his WhatsApp contact information, confirmed pickup details the night before, and even let us know he might be a few minutes late because of traffic (he actually arrived right on time). That level of communication immediately gave us confidence.
The vehicle was spotless, there was bottled water waiting for us, and on the drive from Guadalajara he even stopped at a convenience store so we could grab a snack before all of the tequila tastings. It was a thoughtful touch that really set the tone for the day.
One of the biggest surprises was that this was a completely private tour for just my wife and me. For a price comparable to many larger group tours, we had a personalized experience that felt like traveling with a local friend who also happened to be an insider in the tequila industry.
Jesse is young, professional, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable. Having previously worked in the industry, he seemed to know everyone at the distilleries we visited. He’s fluent in both English and Spanish and spent many years living in San Diego, making him the perfect guide for English-speaking visitors who want to understand both the culture and the tequila-making process.
We visited Casa d’Oro and Cascahuin, and I loved seeing two very different distilleries. Learning about agave cultivation and tequila production from two perspectives made the experience much more interesting than visiting only one location. We sampled six tequilas at each stop, and every tasting came with fascinating explanations about the production methods and what made each tequila unique.
Afterward we explored the town of Tequila, enjoyed a fantastic lunch, and Jesse introduced us to aguachile after we mentioned that ceviche is one of our favorite foods. It ended up being one of our favorite meals of the entire trip.
By the end of the day, it honestly felt like we had spent the day with a friend rather than a tour guide. If we’re ever back in the Guadalajara or Tequila region, Jesse will be one of the first people we contact.
I can’t recommend this tour highly enough. If you’re trying to decide between a crowded bus tour and this private experience, choose this one. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Mexico.

Perfect guide and translator for Jalisco highlands and the Valley for Tequila distillery Tours
This was an exceptionally well curated professional experience, we were so glad to have found Jessie during our search for a private guide and translator to the highlands region of Jalisco! We can’t rave about his knowledge and especially the ability to communicate the process and principles of making tequila. He’s also very proficient at explaining the industry in general, which added to our overall understanding of how tequilas have evolved in the region. Perfectly fluent in English which can be necessary at the distilleries. The tour was mapped out well in advance, with our ideas of what we wanted to see, he made great suggestions, knew the route well, his follow up was perfect throughout our planning stage and the price was more than fair for all he arranged for us. He knows the tequila makers, made the right, introductions and was able to explain very technical details brilliantly. We plan to have a stop for lunch in between but found the tours so engrossing in learning that we just stopped at a perfect spot after our scheduled tours on the way home to continue the conversations. He arrived on time and drove us from place to place with a beautiful commentary on what we were there to learn along the way. From 9 am-6 or 7 pm we thoroughly enjoyed every moment. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Good artisinal tequila tour
I liked that the private tour gave options about which artisanal distilleries I could visit. My guide, Jessie, spoke good English and was knowledgeable about tequila and its history. I recommend going to Forteleza to taste tequila made the old way, using a tohono to crush the agave. Different flavors come out and you get to taste them in a cave! And you can get fish tacos afterward on the beautiful Sauza property below the volcano, so I skipped the restaurant included in the tour because I was with a fun group. Jessie was flexible and then we went to Cascuin distillery where he had worked so he led the tour and tasting there. I recommend this tour if you want artisanal tequila.
