The day begins very early, with pickups between 3:00 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. directly from your hostel or hotel in Cusco to Cusipata. The initial drive takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The first stop will be in Cusipata for 30 minutes to have breakfast.
From there, we continue our journey for another hour and a half, passing through the village of Pitumarca until we reach Hanchipata–Llama Chimpana, where the hike begins.

You will begin the walk at the foot of the Ausangate mountain range and make your way up for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.
We will then reach the highest point of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), the best place to see the incredible colors and the snow-capped Ausangate peak.

This will be the highest point of the mountain. You will have the opportunity to see different types of South American camelids (relatives of camels).
We will also visit the Red Hill, where you’ll have time to enjoy the scenery and take beautiful photos.
Please note that the Red Hill entrance fee is not included in the ticket price.

Stop in Cusipata for lunch.

You will finish the hike with a 1-hour descent over flat terrain, returning to where the walk began.
The driver will be waiting to take you back to the district of Cusipata for a 1-hour traditional lunch.
After lunch, we will return to Cusco, arriving at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Rainbow Mountain is worth the effort!
Rainbow Mountain is a tough hike because of the altitude but Robinson was an amazing guide and kept us motivated throughout! He was very communicative on the front end and ensured that we had an amazing experience.

Highly recommended tour company
My sister, daughter, nephew and I had an incredible experience on our private Rainbow Mountain tour, thanks to our amazing guide Flor and driver Edy. From start to finish, everything was well organized and smooth.
Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about the area. She shared fascinating insights about the history, culture, and landscape of Rainbow Mountain, which made the hike even more meaningful. She was also very attentive to my family , making sure everyone was comfortable and safe—especially at the high altitude.
Our driver Edy was equally fantastic. The roads to the mountain can be challenging, but we always felt safe and in good hands. The drive was smooth, punctual, and stress-free.
What really stood out was the level of care and professionalism from both of them. They went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a great experience.

Fabulous tour
This was the most amazing experience. David was an experienced, knowledgeable and highly supportive guide. This is quite challenging given the altitude but with David’s expertise we managed, and thoroughly enjoyed, the day. Rainbow Mountain is really great but the Red Valley blew us away. The Agency were very responsive, communicative and helpful. Would highly recommend this tour.

Rainbow mountain tour
Went on a tour to the rainbow mountain and red valley with Darwin the guide and it was great. We went early to see the sites, we saw Andean eagles flying, which was great, and the weather was also really good

Breathtaking views and comfortable experience!
I went with a group of 5 friends both our guides patiently waited for us and encouraged us to make it up the mountain! Both Carlos and Marco were very knowledgeable and shared great information about landscape and local life! I would highly recommend!
