Saqqara, the oldest complete stone building complex known in history was built, the Pyramid of Djoser, built during the Third Dynasty. Another sixteen Egyptian kings built pyramids at Saqqara, which are now in various states of preservation. High officials added private funeral monuments to this necropolis during the entire Pharaonic period. It remained an important complex for non-royal burials and cult ceremonies for more than 3,000 years, well into Ptolemaic and Roman times.
The Pyramid of Djoser (or Djeser and Zoser), or Step Pyramid (kbhw-ntrw in Egyptian), is an archaeological site in the Saqqara necropolis, Egypt, northwest of the city of Memphis. The 6-tier, 4-sided structure is the earliest colossal stone building in Egypt. It was built in the 27th century BC during the Third Dynasty for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser. The pyramid is the central feature of a vast mortuary complex in an enormous courtyard surrounded by ceremonial structures and decoration. The pyramid went through several revisions and redevelopments of the original plan. The pyramid originally stood 62.5 metres (205 ft) tall, with a base of 109 m × 121 m (358 ft × 397 ft) and was clad in polished white limestone

Hoda, our guide, was excellent. Friendly, entertaining, very knowledgeable. This is a great 3-4 hour tour if you arrive late in Cairo and are jet-lagged. Our driver was safe (saying something here in Cairo), courteous and attentive. Saqqara was surprising in in It’s size and breadth.
During my trip to Cairo, I had the opportunity to enjoy yet another wonderful experience. I wished to revisit the Saqqara necropolis. Although, as an Egyptologist, I know it almost by heart, my 26 years of experience—during which Egypt has been my second home—have taught me that it is always beneficial to be accompanied on such visits by experienced Egyptian Egyptologist guides. For this reason, I once again turned to the professional services of Discover Egypt Tour, based in Haram, Cairo. For a more than reasonable price, the company provided me with the outstanding services of the guides Atala Saed and Mohamed Radwan. They picked me up from my hotel early in the morning and accompanied me throughout the visit to Saqqara, taking excellent care of me and helping me explore the most important monuments of the site. In the process, I discovered not only two true professionals, experts in the archaeological and touristic heritage of Saqqara, but also two extraordinarily kind and attentive individuals, genuinely concerned that my archaeological visit should take place under the best possible conditions (they even provided a large basket filled with fruit, water, and snacks). I had requested in advance to visit certain specific monuments, and they guided me not only to those, but also to others that I was not aware were open to the public. I particularly appreciated the high-quality, professional explanations offered by Mohamed Radwan, as well as the constant support and care provided by Atala Saed. Therefore, if you wish to spend quality time at the Saqqara necropolis—visiting the magnificent and vividly decorated rock-cut and mastaba tombs of the Fifth and Sixth Dynasties (Irukaptah, Nyankhkhnum and Khnumhotep, Ptahhotep, the viziers Mereruka, Kagemni, Mehu, the female physician Princess Idut, and others), the Pyramid of Unas from the Fifth Dynasty and that of Teti from the Sixth Dynasty, the Southern Tombs, the Heb-Sed Court, the Step Pyramid of Djoser (including the serdab with the statue of his ka on the northern side), the Serapeum, the elite New Kingdom tombs (such as the tomb of Tutankhamun’s nurse, Maya), the Imhotep Museum, and many other fascinating monuments— I wholeheartedly recommend the services of Discover Egypt Tour and the Egyptologist guides Atala Saed and Mohamed Radwan. In addition, at the end of the visit, I also enjoyed a traditional Egyptian lunch, offered by the company, featuring an authentic and absolutely delicious Koshary, which I will certainly order again on my next return to Egypt. I guarantee that you will gain extraordinary memories and experience firsthand the warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality of Egyptian guides. And you will certainly return to Egypt, choosing once again the same tourism company: Discover Egypt Tour.
Wonderful outing with Yasmine! So interesting to see. She was a wonderful guide. It was fun to get to go into the pyramid.
We enjoyed the experience itself, however the car that we got picked up in was dirty (inside), and the guide Gina spent a lot of time arguing with people on the phone. In my opinion she needs to focus her time on our tour and not on her phone calls. She was also loud in the car on the phone which was very annoying. We are not paying a guide nearly $70 pp to be the phone Our activity consisted of the guide and driver picking us up from the hotel in Giza, driving to Saqqara, walking around the step pyramid and the ruins and going down into the bent pyramid and driving back. It’s a short tour - we started just after 8 and finished around 11. Our guide Gina shared some great knowledge with us, she was good except for slightly rushing us and as mentioned above - being on the phone for a lot of the time.
Totally recommend this tour with the team. There is so much history and the Saqara pyramids are so much nice to enter than the Giza ones. They are also older! Our guide was very knowledgeable and told us all about the history and the significance. So happy we included this and the entire team ensured we had an excellent experience
Sara knew her stuff, good English. Isaac organised everything, all well planned and on time. Highly recommend and would definitely use again if coming back with the family.
Simon did and an excellent job. Carlos the driver we exceptional. We really enjoyed our tour and would hire them anytime we are back in Egypt
I would like to thank our guide Hoda and driver Mario for a great experience. The private tour was comfortable, and Hoda’s explanations were clear. The Saqqara Pyramids have a unique charm, different from Giza. A half-day tour is a great option if you’re short on time.

Gina was a fabulous guide! Saqqara was well worth it and was a more interesting place to visit than the Giza pyramids. Highly recommend.
