The Valley of the Queens, also known as Biban el-Harim, is a famous archaeological site located on the west bank of the Nile River in Egypt, near the ancient city of Thebes (modern-day Luxor). It is situated opposite the Valley of the Kings, another prominent necropolis of ancient Egypt. The Valley of the Queens served as the burial place for the wives and children of pharaohs during the New Kingdom period (approximately 1550-1070 BCE). The tombs in this valley were constructed for queens, princesses, and other royal family members. The name "Valley of the Queens" is a modern designation, as the ancient Egyptians referred to the area as "Ta-Set-Neferu" or "The Place of Beauty."

The temple served as a funerary temple dedicated to Ramses III and was intended to honor and worship him after his death. Great day in Luxor!

My 19 year son and I spent the day exploring some of the world’s greatest places with a terrific Egyptologist, Abdelwahab. He was so incredibly knowledgeable about Egypts history, geology, and architecture that there wasn’t a question we could ask that he couldn’t answer.

Amazing trip to the Valley of the Kings

We had an amazing experience with our guide Abdel and our driver Ahmed. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and explained things very well. We never felt rushed. We really enjoyed talking with him over coffee about life in Egypt as well. Our driver drove very carefully and we felt very safe with him.

Dedicated support

Because the main attractions in Luxor are quite spread out, planning an efficient itinerary on your own can be a challenge. Thankfully, Egypt Lovely Tours helped us seamlessly navigate the city by tailoring the tour to include everything on my wishlist—from the specific Valley of the Kings tombs, the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, and Karnak Temple, to a fantastic seafood restaurant. We also had the chance to stop by an authentic stone-carving workshop and a souvenir shop boasting a wide selection of high-quality goods. Despite it being a tight one-day trip from Cairo, we enjoyed a wonderfully diverse and fulfilling experience.

Our Guide’s (Ammar)...

Our Guide’s (Ammar) english was mostly okay, although sometimes we didn’t understand everything he said but he seemed nice. We did most of the itinerary except valley of queens (apparently important tombs were closed) so our guide suggested to skip it. Temple of medinet habu was the highlight of the tour but the tombs that our guide chose for us, and the temple of hapshepsut was also great. There was a lot of tipping especially inside the tombs. Even security guard wanted to tell us things, took photos for us, or take our photos for tips. The security staff who work inside tombs (eg near sarcophagus) let people to seemingly forbidden places or took photos for tips. I suggest preparing a lot of small Egyptian cash currency for tips. Haggling closer to touristic sites was excessive (Sending kids for emotional manipulation). Our guide also took us to an alabaster shop, which was a little overpriced but at least the sellers were nice and negotiated a little. Before the tour ended, they took us to a jewelry store closer to the Luxor. It was much more overpriced, quoting 3 times the government price for gold.

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the Temple of Medinet Habu, the selected tombs, and the Temple of Hatshepsut. We are also pleased that Ammar's friendly personality helped make your day enjoyable. Regarding the Valley of the Queens, some of the most significant tombs can occasionally be closed for restoration or preservation work. In such cases, our guides aim to maximize the value of the tour by recommending alternative sites that offer a better experience for our guests. We appreciate your comments regarding tipping and shopping stops. While tipping is entirely optional, we understand that the local culture around tourist sites can sometimes feel overwhelming for visitors. Your observations are valuable and will help us continue improving the experience we provide. We are grateful for your feedback and are happy that, despite these challenges, you were able to enjoy many of Luxor’s incredible historical treasures. We hope to welcome you again on another adventure with Egypt Lovely Tours.

Luxor Sight Seeing

It was a great experience. We went very early in the morning since we visited in June but the pickup was smooth. Our guide Amaar was super friendly. The admission fees were decently priced although some tombs were extra. The whole experience was about 5-6 hours. Good for people who enjoy history!

Wonderful tour of the West Bank of Luxor with Ammar

Did a full day tour with Ammar as my guide and had a great time. He explained the history of the different places we visited, gave me ample time to wander and explore on my own, never pressuring me to hurry up, and was an overall very friendly guy. The Valley of the Kings was definitely the highlight.
