Wonderful day from beginning to end - amazing experience. We will definitely be back.
We booked a Private Wine and River Cruise Douro Tour directly with Oporo and Douro Moments. Sara was the most gracious host from our very first interaction accommodating us through some booking challenges. We wanted a day of relaxation after several days of walking and touring the hills of Lisbon and Porto and Sara and Joao delivered on every expectation! Joao picked us up at our hotel in Gaia and drove us out to the Douro valley. He held conversation with us the entire 1.5 hrs in such a delightful manner and was so knowledgeable on the history and culture of the area. We stopped along the way for beautiful views and great photo ops before embarking on a 1 hr relaxing cruise down the river to truly experience the unique landscape of the region. We then took a short ride to a boutique winery called Quinta De Tourais where we were fully educated on the wine making process and celebrated the final day of harvest with the owners, Tiago, Fernando, and Lily. We sampled a variety of their unique wines with the most creative labels (including Lily Pop)! Joao then drove us to have lunch at Toca da Roposa where we were treated to the most wonderful lunch with the owners. We were treated like family and the food was delicious. It was paired with wonderful wines and capped off with of course a sampling of Ports. For the final stop we visited Quinta Da Pacheca for more wines and some high end Ports. The entire experience was our most memorable day of our six day excursion in Portugal. Joao was an amazing host and we kept him far beyond the alloted time and he was most gracious to stay with us. We highly recommend to spend a day with Sara and Joao to escape the busy walking tours and relax in the incredible Douro Valley. The experience was worth every penny! Thank you Sara and Joao!
Very special experience visiting the Douro valley with João. He was very knowledgeable and willing to tell us about wine production, farming, politics, and Portuguese culture. Definitely recommend this experience!
This was one of the best tours we have ever had. We were picked up at our hotel promptly by a very polite young man, Joao, who is one of the two owners. He drove us to Douro in a clean, very comfortable vehicle and he talked to us throughout the ride about the region’s history and winemaking. He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We went to two, well-organized wineries where we sampled wine and conversed with the owners and staff. We also went to a very nice restaurant where lunch had been arranged. Joao took pictures of me and my husband wherever we wanted and he also suggested best spots. We never felt rushed and, when planning the tour, they were very prompt in answering my questions and flexible. We highly recommend this team of mother and son for a personalized, highly enjoyable tour of their beloved Douro!
The vineyards were gorgeous that we visited and guide could not have been any nicer. The scenery was incredible and was a wonderful day!
If what you are seeking is a private curated experience with outstanding and interesting wines (red, white, and port) at small family owned and operated vineyards than this will exceed your expectations. The private wine tour to the Douro Valley was an unforgettable experience and a highlight of our visit to Portugal. Our guide João was gracious, and so very knowledgeable about wine and the Douro valley. He loves wine, and his knowledge and taste across varietals comes from appreciation that heightens the experience. We got to visit winemakers off the beaten path, have a private lunch at a vineyard with authentic Portuguese food, and take the day at our own pace. In world where everything is overly commercialized, this is a gem of a find. João - Thank you! We will return and next time we bring a wine transportation suite case:-)
Dear Sarah and Jacques, Thank you so much for this incredible review — it truly means a lot to us! We’re delighted to hear that your Douro Valley experience with João was such a highlight of your time in Portugal. And we’re glad you enjoyed the relaxed pace, the personal connections, and of course, the wines! We can't wait to welcome you back on your next visit! Best wishes, Sara, João and Rui
We weren't sure what to expect but were beyond pleased and had the best trip with Joao to the Douro Valley. It is a private tour where you get to learn from a local who's passionate about the area and the best part is that we got to visit with 2 small production wineries and actually meet the owners and walk around the vineyard with them. Lunch was extra special with more wine and the most amazing local Portuguese cuisine. It was an exceptional day with lots of laughs with Oporto & Douro Moments. We will look to do more tours with them when we're back in the country.
Dear Tracey, Thank you so much for your lovely review! We’re thrilled to hear that your day in the Douro Valley with João exceeded your expectations. It means a lot to know you shared great memories and laughter along the way. We are looking forward to welcoming you back for more unforgettable experiences upon your return to Portugal! Best regards, Sara, João and Rui
My husband and I had an amazing experience with the private tour from OPorto and Douro Moments. Our Portugal trip was impromptu so I hadn’t had a chance to book certain experiences. Luckily for us, OPorto & Douro was able to accommodate us at the last minute and provide us with a private tour the day after I contacted them. The tour was exceptional—from prompt pick up at the hotel at the time they indicated for pick up, to the extensive knowledgeable information about the Douro Valley region, to a stop at a small village within the Douro Valley for views and a tasting at a local shop, and so much more—-it was an unforgettable experience. They provide value for what you’re paying since it included a beautiful one hour tour on the Douro River, a lunch at a fantastic local restaurant where we met the owners who provided wonderful wine pairing for each course of the meal and a wine tasting at a small family owned vineyard. Despite a rainy day, the beauty of the Douro Valley is an experience that cannot be missed. João, our tour guide was extremely professional, and made us feel completely comfortable since he did not participate in any of the wine tasting. The places he took us had no tourists or very few tourists. I especially like that we were able to support some of the smaller family owned businesses that were authentic and provided a more curated experience. My husband and I had not been entirely impressed by some of the Port wines that we had during our trip (with the exception of one fine dining restaurant in Lisbon Jncquoi Fish) until we took the tour of the Douro Valley region— the quality of the wine during the tour far surpassed many that we had up until that moment. The small batches created at smaller vineyards, such as at Quinta De Tourais were just unbelievable! It was so nice not to be in the middle of crowds of other tourists. Each place that we were taken (outside of the boat tour) felt like we had the place all to ourselves. It’s an experience that cannot be missed when visiting Porto. I highly recommend the well curated and planned activities provided by OPorto & Douro Moments. When compared to other private tours, there’s a lot of value for the cost— not to mention the peace of mind of having somebody else drive since the alcohol content of Port wines is quite high and the roads around the Valley have a lot of curves and sharp turns. Cannot recommend this company enough.
Dear Juan, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review. We are truly grateful for your kind words. We’re glad that discovering the Douro wines firsthand changed your perspective — the quality and character of these small-production wines truly speak for themselves. We would be absolutely delighted to welcome you back whenever your travels bring you to Portugal again. Warm regards, Sara, Rui and João
João was a wonderful guide with a deep love of his Douro Valley and Porto roots, which made the trip extra special. Very knowledgeable and interesting. The two wineries, the boat ride, and the lunch provided were incredible. Exactly what we were looking for - small, excellent, family run, with no tour buses in sight. It was truly magical. I wish we were back there again!. I couldn't recommend this tour more highly and would absolutely book João again if we're ever lucky enough to go back.
Dear Sue, Thank you so much for this beautiful review! Your kind words and recommendation mean the world to our company, and we would be absolutely thrilled to welcome you back whenever you return to Portugal! Best wishes, Sara, Rui and João
We were picked up from the hotel by Joao and he took us around for the whole day. A young well mannered young man who was ever so kind. The weather spoiled our trip a little but other than that we had a very good day.
Dear Adnan, Thank you very much for your feedback! We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed your day with João and appreciated his kindness and professionalism. While we can’t control the weather, we’re happy it didn’t take away from the overall experience. Thank you for joining us, and we hope to welcome you back again — hopefully under sunnier skies! Best Regards, Sara, Rui and João
