Itinerary

Kek Lok Si Temple
Admission included90 min

During the British colonial era, the Chinese community in Penang flourished, practicing their faith with devotion and building many grand temples—some said to rival, if not surpass, those in China. One of the most renowned is Kek Lok Si, often described as the largest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia, resembling a spiritual theme park. Built in 1985, visitors can learn about Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism while exploring its beautifully crafted pagodas, vibrant lanterns, intricate statues, and peaceful gardens. Don’t miss the breathtaking view of George Town from the temple grounds. As the locals say: “You haven’t been to Penang unless you’ve visited Penang Hill and Kek Lok Si.”

Penang Hill
Admission not included120 min

Penang Hill, is a popular tourist destination known for its cool climate, panoramic views, and rich biodiversity. Rising 833 meters above sea level, it offers a refreshing escape from the tropical heat below. Accessible by the historic funicular railway, the hill features attractions like The Habitat, colonial-era buildings, temples, and viewing decks overlooking George Town and the Straits of Malacca. Its lush rainforest is home to diverse flora and fauna, making it ideal for nature lovers. Penang Hill also plays a role in conservation efforts and promotes eco-tourism through sustainable practices and educational programs.

New World Park
60 min

Ex amusement park turned into a food hawker center. Stop here for lunch - embark on a mini food tour at Penang's New World Park Hawker Food Court, where you’ll find a wide variety of local Malaysian street food in a clean, semi-open-air environment. Signature Penang hawker delights include Char Koay Teow (fried flat noodles), Penang Assam Laksa, Hokkien Mee (prawn noodles), Penang Curry Mee, Loh Bak (marinated deep-fried meat fritters), Bak Kut Teh (herbal pork soup), Wantan Mee, Indian-style fried noodles, and chicken rice. Don’t miss out on classic desserts like Chendol and Ice Kacang, all freshly prepared by experienced hawkers who bring authentic flavors to every dish.

Historic City of George Town
30 min

Old George Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique blend of colonial architecture, multicultural heritage, and vibrant street art. Established in 1786, the city reflects centuries of diverse influences, including Malay, Chinese, Indian, and European, making it a living museum of history and culture. Here view and take photo with the magnificent colonial buildings like City Hall, Town Hall, War Cenotaph Memorial, Fort Cornwallis, Jubilee Clock Tower and Senate Building, all in working conditions.

Pass by

Penang’s Harmony Street, officially known as Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, exemplifies Malaysia’s multicultural harmony. Drive along this single street to see four major religious landmarks stand side by side: start with St. George’s Church (Christianity), then Goddess of Mercy Temple (Taoism), followed by Sri Mahamariamman Temple (Hinduism) and then the Kapitan Keling Mosque (Islam). This close proximity of diverse places of worship symbolizes Penang’s long-standing religious tolerance and cultural coexistence.

Street Art Penang
30 min

Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic is leaving his mark with beautiful wall painting of children all across historical Georgetown. The artworks are funny, fascinating, and very much open to everyone’s interpretations. Drive around Old George Town to see and snap a photo or two of magical street arts created by Ernest like “Children on Bicycle”, “Boy on Motorcycle”, “Boy with pet Dinosaur” and “Climbing Wall” and other artist's work like "Welcome Cats", "Reaching Out", "Children on Swing" and "Children and Basketball".

Chew Jetty
30 min

Busy, scenic destination featuring a traditional village of rustic houses on stilts over the water. Stroll on the plank walkway to see how the locals go about their daily life on the jetty, take nice pictures of harbor view, iconic Penang Ferry and Penang Bridge and buy a trinket or two or slurp on cool ice drink in this hot and charming enclave.

Great tour experience with Eng

Eng picked us up punctually as arranged to a great start for our day of exploring Penang. He provided us an itinerary before we set off but offered to make any changes we wanted which we did. Eng was energetic & enthusiastic to make our experience enjoyable. He added a lot of colour to the sights & we learned a lot of interesting insights about Penang & the places we visited. We wanted to eat certain Penang favourites and he kindly took us around to do that. A very pleasant surprise was Eng taking the initiative & volunteering to take pictures of us at the various sights. His driving was smooth & careful and he was generous in sharing tips for our trip.

Operator response

It was Eng's pleasure showing you around, and he truly appreciate your kind words about the driving and travel tips. Wishing you many more adventures. Have a nice day ahead, cheers!

Good variety of experiences

Jeff was our driver/guide for the day and he was excellent - he picked us up promptly and we asked to deviate from the standard tour and see some specific sights, which was no problem - we visited the Goddess of Mercy temple, a couple of local villages, Kek Lok Si Temple, Penang Hill, and ended with a walk around the Armenian Street area of Georgetown. Jeff accompanied us as we walked around, and was able to tell us all about the things we were seeing and the buildings we were walking in/through - his knowledge was amazing1 Highly recommend this trip - it can be varied, from the calmness in the hills to the hustle and bustle of Georgetown - and the itinerary can be flexible if required. If you get Jeff as your guide you will definitely get lots of valuable insights and information.

Family Day Out

Eng was our guide for the day and he was brilliant! He created a tour for us as a family and with a 6 year old and 16 month old kept them both entertained throughout the day but also was really informative to the adults. We covered a huge amount in the time and visited all the spots we wanted to cover and wouldn’t have had the experience we did without a guide. Would highly recommend!

Operator response

Thank you, Emily, for your wonderful review! It was Eng's pleasure showing your family around Penang and creating a day that everyone could enjoy. He’s delighted that both your little ones had fun while the adults could discover and learn more about our beautiful island. Wishing your family many happy travels ahead. Cheers!

A flexible tour with a knowledgeable and interesting guide to suit all ages in our group.

A full day with varied activities to keep everyone interested. Max was a wonderful guide, we had pretty bad weather but he changed the activities seamlessly to suit our group. Max was unbelievably knowledgeable about the places we visited and both history and current life in Penang. He was able to keep all members of our group interested throughout. We were very impressed with the whole day, we loved the food from the hawker centre and there were choices to please the fussiest of children. Thank you Max for a wonderful day.

Operator response

It's fantastic your family loved the hawker food and experiences. Your kind words mean so much, and we hope to welcome your friends and relatives to Penang soon. Enjoy the rest of your time in Penang, cheers!

The best way to see Penang

Having limited time in Penang, I booked a private tour. My driver/guide, Mr. Eng Choon Wooi, provided comfortable transportation and interesting commentary at my chosen destinations, the Kuan Yin temple and Penang Hill. He also found a great local vegan lunch spot, and we had time after that to see the Peranakan museum. I relaxed while Eng waited in line to buy tickets or went to fetch the car. He knew the best routes to take and the best photo spots, and answered my questions about life in Penang. I'm glad I booked this tour.

Operator response

Thank you, Liz, for your wonderful review. It was Eng's pleasure showing you around Penang and tailoring the day to your interests. I'm delighted you enjoyed the temples, Penang Hill, vegan lunch, and museum. Your kind words mean a lot, and I hope to welcome you back someday for more. Have a nice day ahead, Cheers!
