The iconic symbol of Osaka in the Kansai region of central Japan played an important role in the unification of Japan during the samurai era of the sixteenth century. WE DO NOT ENTER OSAKA CASTLE.
A visit to Dotonbori is a must and one of the highlights of the tour. Enjoy the iconic riverside scenery surrounded by neon lights, lively streets, and an endless variety of shops and entertainment that define Osaka’s vibrant energy.
Explore Shinsaibashi-suji, Osaka’s most famous shopping arcade. This bustling street is packed with unique Japanese fashion, quirky gadgets, and an energetic local atmosphere that showcases modern Osaka culture.
Discover Hozenji Yokocho, a hidden network of narrow, cobblestone alleys rich in old-Osaka charm and tradition. This atmospheric area is filled with character, from its quiet lantern-lit paths to walls adorned with artwork depicting Osaka’s history.
Step inside Kuromon Market and explore seafood shops that may look modest from the outside but reveal a paradise of fresh fish within. Watch skilled chefs prepare fugu (pufferfish), learn how tuna is cut, and taste some of the best salmon sashimi in Japan.
Tsutenkaku Tower is one of Osaka’s most iconic landmarks and the symbolic heart of the Shinsekai district. First built in 1912 and inspired by Paris’s Eiffel Tower, Tsutenkaku has long represented Osaka’s down-to-earth spirit, resilience, and retro charm. Rising above the neighborhood, the tower offers panoramic views of the city and houses the famous Billiken statue, known as the “God of Happiness.” Locals believe rubbing Billiken’s feet brings good luck—making this a beloved cultural ritual for visitors and residents alike.
Shinsekai: A Journey Through Retro Osaka ・Dazzling cityscape Step into Shinsekai, where a dazzling mix of retro charm and modern city vibes creates one of the most photogenic spots in Osaka. From neon lights to nostalgic storefronts, this neighborhood is a true visual treat. ・Authentic Osaka experiences Get a real taste of local life — literally! You might try iconic street foods like crispy kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers), freshly made takoyaki, or other hidden gems loved by locals. You’ll also discover nostalgic games, lantern-lit alleys, and the warm, old-school atmosphere that defines this area. ・Iconic Tsutenkaku Tower Don’t forget to snap some photos with the legendary Tsutenkaku Tower — Osaka’s answer to the Eiffel Tower — standing proudly over the city since 1912. It’s more than a photo spot; it’s a symbol of Osaka’s lively spirit.

Our tour guide J was wonderful! Very knowledgeable of all the neighbourhoods in Osaka. We enjoyed how personable J was answering our questions and showing us the diversity of Osaka
The tour takes you around the castle. If you have already been inside the castle, there is some repeat stuff. Our guide ‘J’ was friendly, knowledgeable and spoke very easy to understand English.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the walk! It is useful to know that the castle section can feel like a repeat for someone who has already been inside, and that is something we will keep in mind. We are really pleased that J came across as friendly and knowledgeable, and that his English was easy to follow from start to finish, since being understood clearly makes a real difference over three hours together. We will be sure to pass your kind words on to him. Thank you for spending part of your time in Osaka with us, and we hope the rest of your trip was wonderful.
It was a good tour in that we got to visit places that we most likely would not have gone on our own. The only thing we hoped we could’ve had more of was some historical perspective. For example, we would’ve loved to have some more historical context at the Osaka castle. Also, because you’re taking trains to get from one place to another, the guide needs to be cognizant of all group members’ whereabouts as some folks in our group could not keep up and were getting lost.
Thank you for taking the time to set out your experience in this much detail. We are glad the route took you to places you would most likely not have found on your own, as that is a big part of what this walk is meant to offer. Your point about historical perspective is a fair one, and we are passing it on to the guiding team so that stops like Osaka Castle come with more context rather than just the view. The note about keeping track of everyone on the train legs is just as useful, and it will be reflected in how groups are managed. Thank you for helping us improve.

J did such an amazing job of pointing out the little hidden spots for the best photos, even the ones not as obvious. He had a great grasp of the long history of the city and was able to convey the feel of the city and its people well. It was very obvious that he has a deep love for Osaka and its people. We got to see so many great sites and he showed us the iconic places as well as off the beaten path corners. We had the BEST Takoyaki with him!!! Thanks so much J got an amazing day!
Thank you for such a thoughtful review! We're delighted J helped you find those little hidden photo spots, including the ones most visitors would walk straight past. It's wonderful to know his understanding of Osaka's long history and his love for the city and its people came through so clearly. Seeing the iconic sights alongside quieter, off-the-beaten-path corners is exactly the balance we hope for, and we love that you enjoyed such great takoyaki together along the way.
