Beautiful waterfalls and Samurai Shrine

Great experience with the tour guide Sofia who took time and care to show us around Nikko waterfall, lake and Toshogu Shrine. Admission was covered with the tour and Sofia suggested restaurants to eat at and her personal favourites. The tour took around 5 hours where travel to and from Tokyo took around 2 hours. The atmosphere was very in keeping with the shrine as it was set back from the roads and carpark. Sofia added very interesting facts and information about the shrine and Samurai in general. Crowds weren't too bad and Sofia found space and time for us to take photos and have space to see the shrine. There will always be a time limit due to the tour but she did very well to balance photos with seeing everything. I would suggest this tour is fine for everyone to see almost everything. Just a note you may need more mobility due to 200 steep steps to the very top shrine where the Shogun was laid to rest (about <5% of the tour, not missing much at all).

Operator response

Thank you for such a thoughtful, detailed review, Matthew! It's wonderful to hear Sofia showed you Nikko so beautifully, from Toshogu Shrine to the waterfall and lake, and added such rich history about the shrine and the Samurai along the way. Little touches like her personal restaurant recommendations are exactly the local insight we love our guides to share. Thank you also for the helpful note on the steps to the upper shrine, it's great context for future travelers. We'd be delighted to welcome you back for more day tours from Tokyo!
