Description
This experience offers a calmer, more thoughtful way to explore Neuschwanstein Castle—far from the pace of large tourist coach tours. With a maximum of just 10–12 guests per guide, the day feels personal, relaxed, and genuinely immersive. You’ll travel by scenic regional train rather than buses, turning the journey itself into part of the experience as your guide shares insight into Bavarian culture, countryside life, and the story of King Ludwig II.
Your castle entry ticket is included and pre-booked, ensuring a smooth, stress-free visit with an entry time that fits naturally into the day’s flow. Instead of rushing from place to place, the tour prioritizes curated viewpoints, meaningful storytelling, and time to take in the landscape that inspired one of the world’s most famous castles.
Designed for travelers who value depth over speed, this tour offers a premium small-group experience that feels more like exploring with a knowledgeable local than following a typical tour.

Neuschwanstein Castle Tour
We booked the small group train tour for the Newschwanstein castle. Unfortunately the train was out of order due to maintenance and railroad construction. However, they did book us a Mercedes 19 passenger van for 14 people. Needless to say there was plenty of room to spread out and ride in comfort. Our guide was Patrick. He was phenomenal and very knowledgeable about the history of the castle. Would definitely recommend using The Local Experience company. We’re heading back to California on Saturday but when we return for our next family vacation we’ll definitely book another guided tour with this company.
Operator response
Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We’re delighted that Patrick made your Neuschwanstein experience so enjoyable and that we could provide a comfortable alternative to the train. We truly appreciate your recommendation and look forward to welcoming you and your family back to Munich on your next visit!

Bavaria and Neuschwanstein
Lovely visit to Neuschwanstein with John. We had beautiful weather for late September…definitely dress in layers. You have the option off paying 3.50 euros for the shuttle up to the castle or 8.00 euros for the horse drawn carriage ride. Views were incredible throughout the train ride in Bavaria. The castle interiors were magnificent.
Operator response
Thank you for your review! We are so thrilled you enjoyed the castle tour and trip on such a beautiful day. We hope to see you back in Bavaria soon!

Great guide - no train !
The guide was excellent - very knowledgeable, flexible and helpful.
One of the best guides I’ve seen.
Unfortunately am disappointed that the train was not working and we had to in a small bus. It worked in the end but the cost of the trip was very expensive.
Operator response

Great day at Neuschwanstein
Charlie was an amazing guide, providing interesting information along the way, without overwhelming his group. He was very conscientious about his tour group and checked in regularly with everyone to ensure they were all comfortable and enjoying the pace of the day. Although our train situation was cancelled, the company quickly arranged a small bus which was perfect for our small group. The pace of the tour was just right and the castle and surroundings were beautiful. The tour was worth every dollar.
