The National Archaeological Museum of Naples (Italian: Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, sometimes abbreviated to MANN) is an important Italian archaeological museum, particularly for ancient Roman remains. The ruins at Pompeii were first discovered late in the 16th century by the architect Domenico Fontana. Herculaneum was discovered in 1709, and systematic excavation began there in 1738. Work did not begin at Pompeii until 1748, and in 1763 an inscription (“Rei publicae Pompeianorum”) was found that identified the site as Pompeii. The work at these towns in the mid-18th century marked the start of the modern science of archaeology.

Pompeii is much larger than one thinks! We tried to go down each street but were unable to cover the entire town. Very, very cool spot. Recommend! We did not find any restaurants inside so brought a lunch. I believe there may be one restaurant somewhere but it is quite a large area so recommend bringing snacks.
We had an incredible experience visiting Pompeii! Our guide, Rosa, was excellent — extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the site. She brought the ruins to life with fascinating stories and insights that we would never have discovered on our own. Exploring Pompeii with her made all the difference. Highly recommended!
We had great fun with Veronica and we learned so much not only about Naples and Pompeii but also about Neapolitan people quirks, which we would never know without a local telling us about! Definitely a must do if you are spending few days in Naples and want to learn about the city.
