Best experience! We loved the tour. Richard was a phenomenal guide with stories around every turn. I was apprehensive about the 6 hour timeframe, but every minute was amazing. The castle will blow your mind!!

Fun winery tour
While I chose this tour for the trolley experience, I am grateful they switched to an air conditioned bus due to the heat. The guide was personable and had many enjoyable side stories. We went on a Thursday and the wineries we not too busy, which was nice for us. The provided lunch was delicious and there was more than enough food. Overall a great tour.

The tour was fun and...
The tour was fun and educational. Better for new wine drinkers than experienced wine enthusiasts. Was disappointed that we didn't get to ride the trolley because of mechanical issues. Our tour guide was very informative and funny.

Just okay
Our guide Tony was very good and the wine at the castle winery was excellent. However, the name of the tour is misleading because only one of the three stops was at a castle. Also the wine at the other two wineries was not very good. We were only provided with tastings of 3 wines at the third stop, Mark Herrold winery, which was $40 a tasting. The lunch did not agree with me. I was provided a gluten free pasta with sauce and no meat due to my gluten intolerance which was nice since everyone else had pizza, but it did not agree with my stomach. Overall it was just an okay experience.
Operator response
Thank you for the nice rating despite not thoroughly enjoying yourself on our tour. We apologize that the name is misleading as we call it the castle tour because Castello di Amorosa, being a well-known landmark winery in the valley is the main attraction of that particular tour. I also apologize that lunch did not agree with you, and you did not have the positive experience that we aim to provide. Regards.

Expensive
To be honest, it was overpriced for what was offered. Every wine tasting was over $150, on top of what was already spent on the trip itself. Maybe it’s fine for someone else, but for me, it just wasn’t worth it.
Operator response
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. While we do take all feedback constructively, we are a small business, and negative reviews can be detrimental to our business; therefore I would like to clarify for future patrons that each wine tasting fee is $40-65 per person and not over $150 each as stated by and for a group of three people total. While we understand that the winery fees do add up, our partners provide special and private experiences for our guests at discounted costs. We apologize that you did not find our tour worthwhile. Regards.

Generally ok but lots of additional cost.
The Castle winery was nice and has a good variety of wines. The trolley broke down and we had to walk up a big hill to get to the castle. The tour operator gave us a reasonable refund. The other 2 wineries were just ok.
The important thing to take away is be prepared to spend 150 dollars a person for the tastings at the 3 wineries. We did not expect that level of expense in addition to the tour itself. Had we known that it was 300 extra dollars we would have just went to whatever wineries we wanted and skipped the tour.
Operator response
Thank you for your invaluable feedback. We do apologize for the malfunctioning of the trolley, as we know the open-air trolley is what makes our tour unique; as well as the inconvenience, as that didn't make for a positive start to what should be a fun day. While the winery fees do add up, our partners provide special private experiences at discounted costs; however, we apologize that you were unimpressed with the additional two wineries. Regards.

Not what we expected
We booked this particular tour as it was on a trolley to 3 vineyards. The night before we were due to leave we received a message saying the trolley wasn’t working so we’d be on a bus instead. This was so disappointing, as we were already booked on a bus tour the following day. We paid $120 each for this trolley tour and they only offered a $20 refund to compensate for the fact the trolley wasn’t working. Also once we arrived at each winery we had to pay additional to get in a taste the wines. This wasn’t made clear when booking. So basically we spent an extra $300 on top of the original booking for the trolley. We could have done this using uber or taxis at a lesser cost. The frustrating part was that the driver told us the trolley was running the next day and yet we wasn’t offered the opportunity to ride on that one. Also note that they state the pick up was at 6525 Washington street and yet the driver of the bus was waiting one block further down so it took 30 minutes to find the driver. So, whilst we had a good day we left feeling very disappointed in this actual trip, as the tour is offered as a trolley tour not a bus tour.
Operator response
Thank you for taking the time to leave a detailed review of your experience. We apologize for the alternate vehicle, as we understand that the open-air trolley is what makes our tour unique. We do compensate for the switch with a partial $20 refund per ticket, as is comparable with other wine tours. We also, despite the no-refund policy, offer a full refund if you should choose to no longer go on the tour if the open-air trolley was your sole reason for booking our tour. Our ticket cost includes the transportation, guided tour, and lunch. It is stated upon booking that winery fees are an additional cost; although our partner wineries provide our guests private experiences at discounted costs. While there was a trolley operating, it was the Classic Napa Valley tour and not the tour that visits the Castle. We sincerely apologize that our tour did not meet your expectations. Regards.

Hosts were nice and...
Hosts were nice and helpful. The castle was the highlight id the 3 stops!! You can opt out of the tastings if you wish. The lunch spit was delish! The second two wineries were less impressive. Would be nice to add a stop that includes a tour of the vineyard!

Fun way to explore some wineries!
We really enjoyed our time on the Trolley Castle Tour. The weather was perfect for a day spent riding around the Napa area to various wineries and lunch. The wine tasting at Castello di Amorosa was very enjoyable, so much so that we never made it to roam around the Castle at all, but can say the grounds and surrounding area is beautiful. Our wine tasting host had a great personality and we enjoyed visiting with him, and ultimately got some delicious wine to take home. We stopped for a pizza lunch at Tra Vigne that was prompt and delicious and headed on to another couple of tastings. We really enjoyed the presentation given by the host at Bougetz Cellars. Our trolley guide was full of interesting information along the way, making the trip even more enjoyable.
