Itinerary

30 min

You will head off into the Vale of York, learning about life in Yorkshire as you pass through the villages of Strensall, Sheriff Hutton and Hovingham. The first stop is in the traditional National Park village of Hutton-le-Hole, where you can wander amongst the traditional stone-built houses and sheep roaming on the village common land, or just have a leisurely Yorkshire Brew in one of the cafes – the choice is yours!

If you prefer to spend a little less time in Whitby and take the opportunity of travelling by steam train on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway at our special discounted rate, you have the option of boarding the 2.00pm train from Whitby for the 45-minute moorland rail journey through Grosmont to Goathland (Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter movies), where you will re-join the Minicoach. This option is paid locally on the day with no need to book ahead.

45 min

We reach Goathland Station in time to see the other passengers arrive by steam train, then learn about “Hogsmeade”, before exploring the picture postcard fictional village of “Aidensfield” in the Heartbeat television series and maybe grab an ice cream from the village store.

5 min

We leave Goathland and have a couple more photo stops as you learn the history behind the mysterious RAF Fylingdales Pyramid on Snod Hill and the Hole of Horcum.

A Wonderful Trip and Most Relaxing. And a Perfect Guide!

This was SUPER! The trip is well thought out with good stops for seeing the countryside and having some nice walks. (It is nice to get out of the cities.) Our guide, Mark is about the nicest guy you want driving and relaying different layers of local history, he is an absolute asset to BOB tours. Bus was nice, company was great and again the different visits were really pleasant.

Steam train!

We had an absolutely fantastic tour with Mark! He was knowledgeable, engaging, and incredibly passionate about the history and stories behind every stop. He made the experience both informative and entertaining, and his enthusiasm kept everyone interested from beginning to end. The tour was well organized, the pace was perfect, and we learned so many fascinating details that we would never have discovered on our own. A memorable trip

It was a great trip! We were very comfortable with Vince as a guide. Wonderful views over the moors, a nice visit to Whitby, and good restaurant recommendations! And a memorable railroad ride to Goathland / Aidensield in the end.

Operator response

Thank you very much, Triin, for taking the time to leave a review. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beautiful scenery of the North York Moors, your visit to Whitby, and the memorable journey on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Goathland, famous as Aidensfield in Heartbeat. We did notice that you mentioned Vince as your guide. We believe you may have accidentally mixed us up with another tour operator, as none of our driver-guides are called Vince. We completely understand how easy it is to do after a busy trip, but if this review was intended for another company, you may wish to update it so they receive the recognition they deserve. If, however, you travelled with Best of Britain – Yorkshire Day Tours, we are very grateful that you chose to spend the day with us and hope to welcome you back to Yorkshire again in the future. Kind regards, Lucy Best of Britain – Yorkshire Day Tours
