Get on the road and head to the mystic mountain of Montserrat. This natural park, with its very peculiar peaks, protects the spiritual essence of Catalonia. For almost 1,000 years, a Benedictine community has lived in these mountains located 60 km away from Barcelona. On the way, listen to some interesting stories about Catalonia and its bounding to the holy mountain, scene of pilgrims since ancient times and part of the route to Santiago de Compostela. Your guide will share important information to understand the heritage you will discover during the tour.
Visit the Basilica of Montserrat, house of the serene image of the Virgin of Montserrat, the patron saint of Catalonia, a polychrome Romanesque carving dating from the 12th century. The legend says that in the year 880 some shepherd boys found a statue of the black madonna, the "Moreneta", in a grotto. A chapel was built on this site that soon became a place of pilgrimage.
Declared a Natural Park in 1987, Montserrat is famous for its rounded rock pinnacles, shaped over millions of years. Follow your guide on an easy walk of around 30 minutes to one of the park’s best viewpoints.
If you wish, you can also decide to visit the Montserrat museum. It has an important section of early paintings, spanning the 13th to the 18th centuries, with works by El Greco, Caravaggio as well as a large collection of Catalan paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries that includes major names such as Fortuny, Rusiñol, Casas, Picasso and Dalí but also of French impressionism such as Chagall, Braque, Le Corbusier, Miró, Dalí and Picasso.
Leave the mountain behind and head down into the Penedès, Catalonia’s leading wine region, where vineyards stretch between the mountains and the Mediterranean. On the way, your guide will explain what makes this land perfect for growing grapes for cava.
Among the many lands of the Penedes Area, we have chosen the most representative of the Cava production: Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, the capital of Cava. You will discover the origins of this sparkling wine in the hometown of the most ancient and traditional wineries, since its wine growing past goes back to almost five centuries of antiquity.

Our summary of the 100 most recent reviews out of 625 (Mar 2026 – Oct 2026), collected by Viator and Tripadvisor.
Reviewers describe an easy, well-paced day: door-to-door pickup, a guided introduction to Montserrat followed by free time, then an intimate cava cellar visit. Praise centers on guides who double as careful drivers, and no recurring complaint appears.
Nearly every review praises a friendly guide who explains Montserrat's history and legends and Catalan culture. Alba is named most, followed by Marcel, Dulce and Eduardo.
Many enjoyed the winery stop, with a host walking them through vines, vats and cava-making before a tasting, and several bought bottles to take home.
Reviewers often note the guide or driver handled the winding mountain roads and city traffic smoothly and safely.
Several say guides adjusted plans for mobility issues or crowds, booked a lunch, and pointed out extras like the boys' choir or restaurant picks.
A handful liked getting an overview and then a couple of hours to hike, visit the museum or revisit spots on their own.
No complaint comes up repeatedly: none appears in more than a few of the 100 reviews.
How we make this: we read the most recent reviews and sum up what travelers say again and again, good and bad. It is our summary, not a review; the reviews themselves are further down this page. Updated Oct 2026.
