Kunouzan Toshogu Shrine is associated with shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. The Nihondaira Ropeway takes visitors to the shrine, which is a national treasure, and requires a climb of approximately 100 stone steps. People who have anything problem for exmple wheelchair users find it difficult to visit the shrine .

Because of its beauty, Miho Matsubara has been selected as one of Japan's New Three Views (established in 1915) and one of Japan's Three Great Pine Barrens. It is also listed as a component of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Sacred Sites and Sources of Art on Mt. Fuji.
