It is one of Shizuoka City's most famous scenic spots, having been voted No. 1 on the list of the 100 best sightseeing spots in Japan.From the observatory, visitors can enjoy a 360° 'panoramic view' of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay and Miho Matsubara. Kunouzan Toshogu Shrine is associated with shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu. Whether he is buried in the mausoleum of him on this site is still a mystery. Imagine seeing the mausoleum with your own eyes!

Because of its beauty, Miho Matsubara has been selected as one of Japan's New Three Views (established in 1915) and one of Japan's Three Great Pine Barrens. It is also listed as a component of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Sacred Sites and Sources of Art on Mt. Fuji.".
The Nihondaira Yume Terrace, an observation deck, offers 360° views of Mount Fuji, Miho Matsubara, Suruga Bay and the Shizuoka city centre.
A historic shrine that should not be missed for sightseeing, with its colourful, all-lacquered shrine pavilions that convey the sumptuous culture of the early Edo period, the mausoleum where Ieyasu lies, and a museum that houses valuable historical documents, including the armour of successive Tokugawa shoguns.

We had a great experience in Shimizu today- exploring Mt Fuji with our private driver. We were able to go at our own pace through the sites and not worry about finding transport back.
