Great experience! Learned a lot, and made a great cocktail! Would definitely do this again. We had a cocktail upon arrival, did a tequila taste testing, and had the opportunity to make our own cocktails. Great time!
This cocktail course was a gem. Mauricio took us on a sensory tour using unique Mexican distillates such as sotol, mezcal, tequila and even a pulque distillate that we had never tasted. Every drink had history, technique and taste. Ideal for those who want to try something beyond the typical margarita. The atmosphere was warm, relaxed and very well guided. Must if you are interested in the liquid culture of Mexico!
Amazing experience in an incredible place. Loved the venue! The host made us feel like we were at a friend's house from the start. They provide everything you need for the cocktail class.
This was an amazing experience! Mauricio is the master of all things mezcal and tequila. I look forward to more unique experiences with SOM & Mauricio! If you are visiting CDMX this is a must! :)
I highly recommend this experience. Mauricio is a great guide, expert in his field and very friendly. I recommend the experience both for people who are not familiar with Mexican liquors and for those who are. Personally, I learned a lot and I was surprised despite being Mexican and knowledgeable about Tequila and Mezcal.
Cocktail Class Review at SOM From the moment I walked into SOM, I knew I was stepping into a unique corner of Mexico City—a place where Mexican spirits come to life through creativity and mixology. I signed up for the Mexican spirits cocktail class without realizing I was about to embark on a sensory journey that would completely change the way I see and enjoy these ancestral drinks. The experience began with a guided tasting, where we explored five unique spirits: mezcal, sotol, víbora sotol, pulque distillate, and pox. I learned about their origins, the artisanal processes behind each one, and their distinctive flavor profiles. The víbora sotol surprised me with its intense and earthy character, while the pulque distillate turned out to be a liquid gem that preserves the essence of fermented aguamiel. Then came the most exciting part: crafting cocktails with these spirits. We started with the pulque distillate, blending it with fresh citrus and a touch of sotol honey. The result was an unexpected, refreshing, and perfectly balanced drink that highlighted the smoothness and herbal notes of the spirit. Next, we moved on to pox, a fascinating Mayan-origin distillate. We created a cocktail that combined Chiapaneco coffee and spices with fruit, striking a perfect balance between sweetness and smoky depth. Each sip was a celebration of Mexican ingredients, elevating pox into a completely new experience—an ideal way to close the class. By the end, I realized that this was more than just a cocktail class—it was a journey through the richness of Mexican spirits. Not only did I learn to craft delicious cocktails, but I also gained a deep appreciation for the artisanal craftsmanship behind every bottle. A must-try experience for anyone who loves great drinks and Mexican culture. Cheers!
Mauricio, Iván and Suri are very professional and knowledgeable on the spirits of Mexico. The tasting and knowledge sharing was done in a way that it felt that we were chatting with friends. The mixology part was exciting and a lot of fun! Without a doubt I would book the experience again. And would recommend it to everyone traveling to Mexico that wants to know more on Mexican spirits (excluding tequila and mezcal).
