This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. This is a 4 hour all inclusive tour, including 2 hours paddling around the Mendenhall Lake to see the Mendenhall Glacier and experience the wild of Alaska in the Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the United States.
Guests will get up close and personal with the Mendenhall Glacier as they canoe up to the face of the glacier and experience it from a canoe on Mendenhall Lake.
Our entire tour takes place in Tongass National Forest. We bring guests out to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area to the West Side Glacier Parking area. This is where our tour gears up, goes over safety and paddling instructions and starts our paddle to the Mendenhall Glacier- all located in the Tongass National Forest.

Tor and Hannah were the best guides ever. They were fun, had the best jokes, and will we're well versed in all things glacier related. The tour was exciting and rewarding. I am not in very good shape but I was able to handle the canoe trip just fine. You were in the boat with several other people so rowing is not as tough as it would have been if we would have done a kayak. I would do it again.
Elymus and Cortland were fantastic guides… so fantastic that I made sure to ask for the spelling of their unique names. I booked this excursion last-minute — two minutes after stepping off the cruise ship — and am so glad I did! Shoutout to Tara who convinced me that this was an excursion that best fit my adventure style. I had enough time to explore the town before and after paddling 7 miles! The scenery was breathtaking and the guides along with the three of us travelers had so much fun exchanging stories. I’d definitely go on another adventure with these guys!
Joe and Elisha were wonderful guides. We didnt even realize we had paddled 6 miles through a frozen lake because we were having such a blast. They made it fun, easy, and super informative. This was probably our favorite tour from all the stops on our cruise.
My wife and I did the Liquid Canoe Mendenhall Glacier tour as an early anniversary trip, and it was an incredible experience. El and Sophie were fantastic guides for both the canoe and hike. They were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire trip informative, fun, and memorable. The views were absolutely stunning, and the canoeing was easier than we expected and definitely worth the paddle. We got lucky with the weather being sunny and the trip there was only an hour and an hour and a half back with our detour and only one other couple there for a group of 4 people plus the two tour guides for 6 people. If you have some strong rowers in your group, you can even make a stop at Nugget Falls. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Juneau!
Our Canoe guides were EXCELLENT!! Courtland & Elymus were the best guides on the canoe trip with a thorough knowledge of the area. They brought us up to the falls and then within a few hundred feet of the glacier. We had a small crew of people on the trip & we would not trade it for another experience. We had a chance to drink in the surroundings with eagles flying over. Tremendous.
Joe, our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the historic events revolving the Mendenhall glacier and many other Alaskan lakes, rain forest and the surrounding landscape. We learned a lot of reason why everyone should protect the environment! Thanks Joe.
Joe was an incredible tour guide for this absolutely sick adventure. He was hilarious and kept the energy super high. Not only did he keep us laughing but he also taught me so much about what makes this place so special. Everything is a glacier!!!! Highly recommend for anyone interested in seeing this glacier before it’s gone.
From the moment we stepped on the bus Joe’s passion and knowledge of the local area shone. He shared interesting facts about the local area on our way to the lake. Once we reached the lake he was helpful in educating us all on the relevant safety information and how to properly operate the boat. As we paddled to and from the glacier, Joe kept us thoroughly entertained, educated and motivated. He engaged in incredibly natural conversation about the intricacies of the glacier, answering all of our questions with enthusiasm. Overall this was an incredible experience with amazing views and a fantastic guide. Thank you Joe!
