Description

Mdina, Malta's former capital is situated on a hilltop in the central part of the island and dominates over two - thirds of Malta. It is one of Europe's finest examples of an ancient fortified city, characterized by medieval and baroque architecture. Known by the locals as the " Silent City", it encloses within its walls palaces belonging to Maltese aristocratic families, the majority of which are secondary homes.  Walking through Mdina you will feel as though the city has been frozen in time; its narrow winding streets, majestic palaces, churches and courtyards make this city unique, a must-see during your stay in Malta! Rabat, a suburb of Mdina, is also a historical town with strong religious ties. According to tradition during his 3 months stay in Malta, St Paul the Apostle lived in a grotto beneath the parish church.Your guide will lead you along some of the most typical street in Rabat highlighting the most important architectural features as you go along.

Exceptional Knowledge and history

If you’re into walking tours and learning more about the history and culture of Malta, this is exactly what you are looking for. Our guide, Marissa, provided a fountain of knowledge about Mdina, Rabat, and the history of the Maltese people and islands. In just 2 hours, my son and I learned more about Malta than we had in our previous 7 days on the islands or during our research. This tour captured and held the interest of our group (ages 19-45) and was so informative without overloading information. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to get a deeper knowledge and history of Mdina and the Maltese islands.

Worth Doing!

Unfortunately, I can't remember our guide's name but he was so informative and made the tour very interesting. This is definitely worth doing as you get to walk through a World War II bomb shelter as well as seeing where Paul the Baptist was imprisoned plus so much more. The history is amazing and the walk is easy.

Do it

Great tour. Our tour guide, Angel, made the difference. She gave a detailed narration of the history of both cities and how their histories intersect with the architectural style. Very knowledgeable. Pace was great. She was patient with our questions. Took us to the catacombs for icing on the cake.

Great guide

Super knowledgable guide with lots of interesting information. We had a very disengaged group of teenagers in our group so think she did well to keep the rest of the group invested

One of the best walking tours! Our guide Angele is the gold standard for walking tour guides. We learned so much about Malta/Mdina/Rabat’s history, culture, architecture, language. One of the highlights of our 3-day Malta visit. Highly recommend!!

The true historical Malta

Our guide Christine was very knowledgeable and friendly. The tour of Mdina and Rabat allowed us to experience the true historical Malta. Christine shared various anecdotes about the island's history, creating an atmosphere of conviviality. We appreciated her suggestions on where to have lunch. The visit to Rabat was less engaging compared to Mdina, but perhaps that was due to the characteristics of the place. Our group was entirely composed of Italians. Thank you, Christine.
