London Theatre Disneys Hercules

We bought higher priced tickets to be closer to the stage but our seats were moved to the last row of the section. This nearly ruined our night after looking forward to it for months. This was a deceptive act at best, illegal at worst. I plan on never buying show tickets from viator again.

We are visiting London and went to see Hercules and loved it so much! It was such a beautiful production, so creative, and the is so talented. Our kids loved it so much. We went today August 4th and we were so impressed! We are so happy we went and felt like it was worth the money. Thank you so much!

Visited with my 8 year old. She was totally enthralled the whole time. Songs were catchy and the sets were so so good, pillars constantly moving around the stage and a dress change that was nothing short of magic. The muses were the best part, voices were pitch perfect and the outfits were dazzling. The merch stands were brilliant too.

As a musical, there were enjoyable moments. As an adaptation of Disney's Hercules, it was a major disappointment. The music was outstanding, the Muses completely carried the show, and Meg was brilliantly cast. Phil's actor also did a great job despite the bizarre decision to turn him into a barman. Unfortunately, that's where most of my praise ends. The adaptation stripped away many of the elements that make Disney's Hercules what it is. Fear and Panic were gone. The Titans were gone. There was even a major plot hole, with Meg appearing before Hercules had even been made mortal by Hades' potion. If you're going to market it as Disney's Hercules, audiences should expect something that actually resembles Disney's Hercules. The biggest failure, however, was Hercules himself. His singing was excellent, but his portrayal was completely wrong for the character. He didn't feel like Disney's Hercules for a single moment. His speech, delivery, mannerisms and overall stage presence felt like a distinctly modern American interpretation that was completely disconnected from the Greek hero and the Disney character audiences know. Instead of portraying Hercules, it often felt like the actor was portraying himself. Casting was also a major issue. Hercules is one of the most iconic figures in Greek mythology, yet the lead bore no resemblance to the traditional Greek or Mediterranean image of the character. I believe adaptations should respect the identity of iconic characters regardless of their background. If a well known Black character were recast as white, there would almost certainly be far greater public backlash. To me, applying a different standard here is a clear double standard. The attempted Greek dance scene was equally embarrassing. It felt more like a caricature than a celebration of Greek culture. If another culture had been portrayed in such a stereotypical way, I believe the criticism would have been immediate. That inconsistency was hard to ignore. Outstanding music and a few excellent performances were not enough to save a production that failed to capture the heart, characters and identity of Disney's Hercules. It wasn't the adaptation fans were promised. It was a loose reinterpretation wearing the name of a beloved Disney classic.

If you love Hercules and musicals, you have to see it, no doubt... And even if you don't, it's super entertaining, the singers are exceptional, and even the snacks and ice cream are good. I have been to many shows in my life around the world, and I consider this a must-see, beautiful, and moving.

Being a newer show in the West End, and also because we are Disney fans, we had to watch this show. We enjoyed it but we enjoyed the other Disney musicals more. We felt Meg was strong, but Hercules was lacking. The original stage songs were also not the best. Love the stage work, and the theater is amazing!

We’ve had this on our to do list ever since the announcement and a recent offer appeared for £24 tickets so we snapped them up. Front row of the grand circle so can’t complain about the view. The set and costumes were amazing but I’m glad I hadn’t watched the Disney film beforehand as it appears by other reviews, the story does not match. That would have disappointed me. My main complaint was the clarity of the lyrics. The muses looked amazing but as they appear to tell the story throughout, I had no idea what they were singing! I have high pitch hearing loss and thought my hearing aids may need a tune up but having spoken to my grown up daughters in the interval, they couldn’t understand any of it either! Now I’ve seen reviews saying the same. If children are coming to expect to see the film version but can’t hear what is being sung, I don’t know if they’d know what is going on?! Hercules was beautifully clear however, so I don’t think it was a sound problem in itself.

There are lots of good things about this show but...... It's loud and most of the time on the loud numbers impossible to hear the lyrics. I should add I would stick pins in my eyes that watch a modern disney movie so I unable to judge it against anything. The staging, set, choreography & costume (with a couple of exceptions) are all good. There is some 1960s variety time filling dance routines I could have done without. The cast have it their all. We had seats with a great view and it wasn't expensive, had I paid a lot of money I would have been sorely disapppinted. There is some awful humour but I personally liked the Times Roman joke. We went on a day which was full of school children, they clearly loved it and you can see despite it being all dressing and no substance there are some things that could open doors to more serious stuff, like a trip to the British Museum and the real story etc. All theatre is good for kids and this might just inspire some to follow this path....

Wasn't sure what to expect as not one of the Disney films i've watched more than once but it was a great evening with a really fun musical that doesn't take itself too seriously. the performances were perfect and there was a great amount of humour in the show as well as some impressive set pieces and musical performances. The theatre itself is steeped in history and fascinating just to look around.

Went to see this a few months back but forgot to review. Very cheesy and the humour was just not funny. Strong vocals though
