Excellent and very educational exhibition - the creation of Iceland and it’s volcan activities is made easy to understand. The interviews with the people of Grindavik was very touching

At the high-tech interactive Lava Centre exhibition you will learn about the birth and growth of Iceland as one of the world’s largest volcanic islands. It has risen during millions of years from the submarine North Atlantic Ridge, through countless volcanic eruptions. They occur as a large mantle plume locally adds molten rock to the magma up-flow beneath the rifting segments that line this ridge. The spreading along the ridge results in the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates moving apart 20 kilometres every million years, a fingernail a year. Interact with the volcanoes and feel the trembling of the earthquakes. A fantastic movie displaying the latest eruptions in Iceland and a beautiful observation deck round up a visit not to miss.
Out at sunset: the 5:00 PM departure is under way when the sun sets, around 5:42 PM in the coming weeks.
From the operator’s live schedule on Viator, checked Oct 7.

Not a must-do, but really perfect if you want to do something in bad weather or simply diversify your visits and activities. The center is very large, clean, and beautiful. Small restaurant (MAGMA) next door is really nice. The interactive maps are huge and fascinating to look at.
It is not just a tourist center, it is also a point of evaluation, monitoring, and analysis of the country's geological effects, which is a topic of high local relevance. Start with a good movie and follow through the well-set up and interactive exhibition halls. Indicated visit.
Amazing day really fun and recommend it
Very friendly people to explain the welcome, beautiful film showing and everything in this building was beautiful and pleasant.
What a fun place. ! I loved the informative and interactive displays and the movie was spectacular
If somebody asks me about lava and geology i would point them straight to lava centre and their museum and movie. Not only is it intresting but its interactive and fun.
Best lava intersctive museum ever and im talking around the world
Wonderful. Must do to appreciate the lava fields.
The Lava Center is located right on the road and has a large parking lot. At the time of our visit, there was very little going on, which was pleasant. We booked the film and tour. The film is very short and shows some of the latest eruptions. The film was okay, but it didn't necessarily have to be made. The tour through the subsequent exhibition was very interesting and really well done. All information is available in Icelandic or English. Many opportunities to interact. Duration is approximately 1 hour. One can, for example, feel the different magnitudes of earthquakes. One feels very humble and small after the visit. On the roof of the building, there is an observation platform from which one can see the various volcanoes. Unfortunately, not much can be seen in cloudy weather. The shop in the building is well-stocked and can also be visited without a ticket. As can the café. We did not visit this, but it looked nice.
