We had a great experience visiting Villa del Balbianello. Especially, we want to mention our tour guide Elena. For the limited time she showed us the house and presented us with a lot of historical information about previous owners of the villa.
This place is magincal and REALLY worth seeing - we could only do the gardens so buy tickets in advance. If walking from ferry - don't go up the path to the right go straight. Suggest water taxi for elegant entry but the walk from Ferry is uphill and good exercise.... would not recommend for elderley and carrying kids. But, if you are fit go for it. Coming down is nice. Watch Ferry times if you go late... we had to wait 1.5hr for our return ferry.We caught a Train from Milan for the day to Lake Como and figured out ferries as we went- it was doable - get train to Varena, train runs along the lake, Varema is BEAUTIFUL - lovely scenic walk to Villa Monaestero - LOVED our day in Lake Como - you can buy tickets on arrival to see the villas.
