We booked a two day excursion with Hatem to the south of Tunesia, including a night-stay in the Sahara, and we had an absolutely great time. This trip has been the highlight of our vacation in Djerba so far. Hatem and Walid picked us up from our Airbnb early in the morning in a white Toyota Landcruiser. Being a car geek myself, I was completely thrilled to go on our journey with the Landcruiser, as this is the car you would want to do such a trip with. Already a big thumbs up for that. Walid was our driver for the trip and that guy surely knew what he was doing. He was more of the cool, silent guy, wearing his sunglasses while blasting through the desert (needless to say that I always felt safe while he was driving us). He was also always ensuring that we had a good time and that everything was to our liking. Hatem on the other hand is always up for a chat, cracks jokes and has many interesting anecdotes about the places to tell. He told us that has been a tour guide for more than ten years and you can really see that. He knows all historic facts and background stories, thus you are in for a treat. Furthermore, he was always making sure that everything was perfect and was taking great care of us. Hatem is the guy, who seems to know everyone, can organize everything, and is super helpful. He even helped us finding a Jetski tour after our trip (needless to say that it was also perfect and we got a very good deal, compared to all the other offers we found). My personal highlights were our stops at Chennini, Ksar Ghilaine, Matmata, and of course our night stay in the Sahara. In Chennini, Hatem had organized a local, Berber tour guide for us, who showed us a real Berber house and gave us a real authentic insight into the life of the Berbers. In Ksar Ghilaine, we chilled in the hot spring pool and afterwards, Hatem organized us a quad trip into the desert, stopping at the ruins of an old Roman fortress, which was awesome (100 Dinar extra per quad; absolutely fair price). In Matmata we were having lunch with a family in their traditional cave house (troglodyte). Absolutely cool to see the architecture, get to know the background story, and the food was delicious as well. Our campsite in the Sahara was perfect. We had a private tent with actual beds inside. In addition, the place had all sanitary facilities and small restaurant, where we got some great local food (personal highlight: the bread being baked in the sand; we got to see that). In the morning we decided to watch the sunrise and then after having a delicious breakfast we continued with the second day of our trip. Long story short, we had a great trip with Hatem. If you are looking for daytrips or excursions, Hatem and Alam Voyages will surely give you an amazing experience.
