Your adventure starts with a van ride to the north end of Ketchikan to beautiful Clover Pass. You will be welcomed and led down to our waterfront facility and introduced to your tandem kayak and get a safety briefing from your guide.
You'll quickly gain confidence as you paddle to Eagle Island. The protected waters of Clover Pass provide us with the opportunity to really enjoy the tranquil setting of the Tongass National Forest.
**Please arrive no later than THE TOUR TIME.** Our representative will be expecting you then at "The Rock " (a life sized bronze statue of people). "The Rock" is located on Berth 2 which is opposite the corner of Mission and Front Streets. Our representative will be holding a sign that says the name of your tour, "Alaska Boatman Tour" or " Eagle Island Sea Kayaking". Please allow yourself up to 15 minutes from the time you disembark the cruise ship to locate the meeting point depending which cruise ship berth you are arriving on. See below for Ward Cove Dock arrival (Norwegian Cruise Lines and Oceana Cruise Lines) Ward Cove Guests(Norwegian and Oceana Cruise Lines): If your tour time is earlier than 9am we would like to pick you up at Ward Cove. If your tour time is after 9am you have time to visit town before your tour if you like. For Norwegian ships this is often your only chance to see downtown Ketchikan, take the free shuttle from Ward Cove Dock(be sure to give yourself 45 min from the time you hop on the shuttle until the tour meeting/start time.. At 9am the shuttle line can be very long! Early bird gets the worm! The Shuttle (15-20 min ride) will drop you off on Dock 4 and it is a 10-15 min walk to Dock 2 to meet at "The Rock" described above or you can request to be picked up at Ward Cove, Just call us. We were fortunate to have scheduled this in September, despite coming from a 4,000 passenger ship. Our kayak journey consisted of the four of us and a guide. We traversed a seaway, circled an island, saw eagles, seals, and tidal creatures. We had learned and continuous information from our very amenable guide, Lucy. It was a morning well-spent.
Our original tour was scheduled through the cruise line but it was cancelled. Then we found it on Viator. The morning of, we called at 6:45 for the tour starting at 7:30. They informed us that it was changed to 10, but, they were willing to pick us up still at Ward Cove. The bus driver was vert friendly. Brendon was an amazingly knowledgeable guide. He pointed out the ea urchants, star fish, eagles, sea lions, sea cucumbers, harbor seals and mink. It was Sept. In Ketchikan, 60 deg and sunny, low tide, clear, and calm. What a fantastic experience.
We booked this excursion in Ketchikan because it seemed to offer the best value for money and was exactly what we were looking for—and it did not disappoint! We had a beautiful, unseasonably warm day for our kayaking experience on Saturday, September 5. After disembarking from the Disney Wonder, a small bus picked our group of seven up and took us to Ward Cove, where we transferred to a RIB for the trip to the Tatoosh Islands. Our guide, Liam, was outstanding. Before setting out in our kayaks, he asked about everyone's experience level and went over safety procedures and familiarization with the kayaks. He was engaging, knowledgeable and very informative about the area, sharing lots of interesting facts along the way. We kayaked around the islands for approximately two hours in wonderfully calm water. This was definitely one of the highlights of our cruise. I highly recommend this excursion!
Jess and Jessica were very helpful and knowledgeable. They helped us get in our kayaks and we just had a great time. We did paddle across the bay and went along the coast and around an island. We saw lots of sea life starfish and sea lions. Then it was really cool getting up close to the eagles. We are active 65 + people and it was just right for us. We met near the visitor center on the pier at Ketchikan Jess was great.
We had fabulous guides…Summer and Rusty. They gave excellent guidance about the kayaks, and provided us with interesting information about the area and the eagles. Both were warm, engaging, and entertaining…the best.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our kayaking adventure while in Ketchican during an Alaskan cruise. The admission was $139 per person and included transportation to and from the pier to the Southeast Exposure Outdoor Adventure Center. The bus driver gave a cheerful and informative commentary about the area, pointing out historical tid bits and local sites. At the center, which is a locally owned and operated business with multiple generations working there, we were met by Jesse, who geared us up and provided clear safety instructions. We all had tandem plastic kayaks and Jesse led us around the inlet where we saw sea lions, eagles, sea stars, various trees, and enjoyed the incredible beauty of the area. We kayaked over to and around Eagle Island before heading back to the dock. The kayak portion of the trip was approximately an hour. A bus was waiting to drive us back afterwards to meet our cruise ship. The outing was well organized and our guide, as well as bus drivers were friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this excursion!
We had an amazing experience kayaking eagle island with Greyson. He was patient with our two kids ask a lot of questions. And very knowledgeable about spotting out wildlife. We saw sea stars, sea lions, and an eagle.

We had an excellent experience. Our guide was Summer and she did terrific. She was professional and knowledgeable and friendly. She explained how to safely enter/ exit the kayaks and helped steady them for everyone in the group to keep us all dry. She helped us spot wildlife and was very informative about it all. We saw sea lions, purple sea stars, and bald eagles. 10 out of 10 would recommend to anyone who enjoys kayaking or just the outdoors and wildlife.
Fun experience from start to finish. Our van driver was very entertaining with stories about his experiences in Alaska. He pointed out interesting things along the way. The day had started out rainy and windy but changed to calm, overcast, and pleasant. We wore spray skirts in the tandem kayaks so we wouldn’t get soaked. Our shoes did get a little bit wet from getting in and out. Our guided Summer, Jess and Haley made the experience fun. We saw several deer on shore as well as starfish.
