This tour and lunch was excellent. We learned a lot about olive oil production, and the guide and hosts were fantastic. The lunch was very good and we consisted of light, healthy foods that differed from anything we’d been able to be at local tavernas, etc. Our 8 year old was unusually well behaved and they were great with him. We had a good time getting to know the other guests over lunch. I highly recommend this tour if in the Kalamata area.
10/10. We had a phenomenal tour guide who gave us a treasure hunt in the Olive groves, above stunning views of Kalamata! The wine tasting and charcuterie at a small privately owned winery devine, the olive oil mill and olive oil tasting was extremely interesting and we learnt so much. ( never had olive oil with dark chocolate ) And finally back to where we started and a farm to table lunch that tasted sublime with home made wine. The entire excursion was one of our best days in Kalamata. Thank you Dimitria!!!! Also - lots of great souvenirs can be picked up to take home. I love my olive oil bath soap.
So friendly and authentic and educational! Love how we supported a family business. I will forever appreciate Olives and Olive Oil now.
What a fabulous fun four hours! We enjoyed spectacular scenery at the recently refurbished premises. Our tour guide Kalliopi was fun, informative and interesting. The experience was interactive. My husband Scott was renamed Costas and crowned with an olive crown. The morning was packed with information but one thing shone through; the love of the olive tree and its produce. You can even measure a tree’s age by how many people it takes to hug the trunk. The tasting that followed was informative and the lunch superb. If you’re a cook or a foody this trip is for you. Many thanks for a wonderful day out. X
Wonderful experience in Kalamata, hearing about olive trees, olive oil, local wines, all with a delicious spread of food for lunch.
What a wonderful experience. Caliope was personable and very knowledgeable, the tastings of both wine and olive oil were delightful, and lunch was incredible. Definitely worthwhile.
Fantastic trip with a super good and passionate guide. She could tell very interesting and did not bore me for three hours
A lovely way to spend 4 hours. Athanassia (sorry if I spelled that wrong) our guide was great. We learned about how olive oil is made, visited a small processing plant, tasted three types of local wine at a wine grower’s, and did an olive oil tasting before a delicious lunch, made locally. 10 out of 10.
It was a beautiful day for a tour. Our concierge at the Grecotel resort in Kalamata had recommended this excursion. The drive up to the village of Androusa was delightful. There were many sights to see along the way. Make sure to go directly to the Castle of Androusa for the start of the tour. There we met Athanasia and Calliope. These two charming young ladies were very entertaining. They made the orientation to the castle ruins and the surrounding olive groves fun and very informative. It was a beautiful location. The views of the countryside are stunning. Pictures do not come close to showing the beauty of the area. We then traveled in our own vehicles to a small farm where the two tour guides gave us an orientation to the types of fruit and vegetables grown in the area. We also explored the small rustic stone cottage that the owners stay in during the growing season. We then traveled to the olive processing plant where we toured the facility and spoke with the owner. The entire process was fascinating. This excursion was topped off with an olive tasting. Calliope (an olive tasting expert) took us through the experience. We learnt a great deal about olive oil from this region. The building that housed the tasting and lunch was the original olive press. The final part of our tour was the lunch. The food was incredible. It was the most authentic Greek lunch that we have had during our entire trip. The food was prepare by Georgla. She lives in the village. Come hungry!!
It is a great excursion. Well run and well explained. The lunch is excellent. You get to experience how olive oil is squeezed. And understand the various properties . Highly recommended.
