It is not a walk but a climb up the mountain in a pickup to the summit at more than 800m. The views of the primary forest and the summit are nice but you don’t see many animals.
Absolutely magical experience 🌿✨ The Langkawi Rainforest After Dark Tour was hands-down one of the best things we did on the island. Exploring the rainforest at night felt like stepping into a completely different world—quiet, mysterious, and full of life you’d never notice during the day. Our guide (Jien) made the tour truly special. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the rainforest. He explained everything in a simple, interesting way and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe the whole time. You could tell he genuinely loves what he does. We spotted fascinating nocturnal wildlife, learned about unique plants, and experienced the rainforest in a way that felt both adventurous and peaceful. The atmosphere, the sounds of nature, and Jien’s storytelling made it unforgettable. If you’re in Langkawi and want a unique, authentic experience, don’t miss this tour and if you get Jien as your guide, you’re in for something truly awesome. Highly recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Last week we joined the Rainforest After Dark Tour with Junglewalla and absolutely loved it. Since it was just the two of us with our guides Rodhi and Danial, the whole evening felt very private and special. The tour started with a drive up Mount Raya where we tried to spot animals at dusk. We managed to see a few different monkey species and even a Great Hornbill, which was a real highlight. At the top we enjoyed an amazing view over the island and coastline while the sky turned bright red and orange with the sunset – simply stunning. Afterwards we went for a night walk through the rainforest with flashlights. We didn’t come across any snakes this time, but we did spot giant toads and even some scorpions. It was a little thrilling and very interesting at the same time. Both guides, especially Rodhi, were super friendly and shared a lot of knowledge with us in an easy and engaging way. We felt really well looked after and learned so much. All in all, a fantastic experience that we can recommend to anyone visiting Langkawi!
We went on the Langkawi Afterdark tour and it was a great experience. We climbed to the top of Gunun Raya Mountain stopping to observe different typical animals and plants with Jien’s guide who explained and told us a lot of information about the fauna and the island of Langkawi. It was great to observe with the binoculars provided all the animals that Jien spotted. I recommend to everyone Junglewalla for the professionalism and the opportunity to discover the wonders that the island of Langkawi offers!
It was great! Our guide was Jien and our driver was Din. They were very good at spotting animals and gave lots of explanations! It was a great experience!
We did the rainforest after dark, we were really looking forward to it after all the good reviews but to be honest it's very overpriced for what it is and we could have done most of it ourselves on the bike. You start with a slow drive up Gunung Raya, where you occasionally get out to look at monkeys and birds. We did see a few species of hornbill, as well as hill myna and eventually a maintain hawk eagle. Our driver was spotting most of the birds and our guide told us a bit of info about some of them. We didn't see the option for hotel pick up on the website, although some people in our group were so we were dropped at the bottom of the mountain to get our bike and follow the bus to the 2nd location as the tour finishes in a different place to where it started. We were then taken to a nature reserve near dream forest where we were given torches and followed our guide around a small path. We saw a gecko and then when we got to the car park our driver pointed out a colugo which was cool to see. It was interesting to see the animals, but to be honest we would have seen most of them on our own and it was very expensive for what it was.
We appreciate your honest review and are glad to hear that you were able to spot some unique wildlife, including the hornbills, hill myna, and the colugo—these are indeed special sightings!. We’re sorry to hear that the tour didn’t fully meet your expectations in terms of value with the price you paid for. Thank you.
We booked the tour 'Rainforest Afterdark' at JungleWalla. Partly because of our guides Afie and Masyi and driver Azman this was a great experience. Seen a lot of animals and got an explanation. If you are on Langkawi then this is a must.
My husband and I had a wonderful time with Afie on the "Rainforest After Dark" tour. Afie was a wonderful tour guide, clearly very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the forest and happy to answer questions and chat about nature in Malaysia! Communication ahead of the tour was excellent, including a suggestion to rearrange our tour around some poor weather to have a better chance of spotting some wildlife which we were able to do easily - and it paid off! You can never have too many expectations when it comes to wildlife tours, but we were very fortunate to see a great range of wildlife including birds, monkeys and lots of beautiful butterflies and rainforest trees, at a relaxed pace which included time to take photos whilst also moving us on quickly via bus to find new things when the time was right. The tour mostly takes place at dusk with a short stint after dark. We even saw a pair of giant hornbills and the colugo which was brilliant! Thanks so much for a wonderful tour and we hope to be back.
To us, this tour was not worth its price. The first part of the tour was an approx. 2HR slow drive on a paved road during which we only spotted a couple dusky leaf monkeys and a flock of hornbills. We parked at the roadside for a good 25 minutes to stare at a tree where hornbills fly back to at dusk. It was fun at first but it soon started to feel like the driver and the guide are just waiting for the sun to set for the second part of the trip. The second part wasn't existing either. We went to a local park (a natural reserve?) and spotted a flying lemur near the parking area. We then only explored about 100 meters into the park and spent at least 15min looking at a gecko on the wall of a public toilet. The guide then led us back to the parking area and called it a day. He claimed that the wind was too strong that night so it wasn't safe for us to keep exploring with the danger of falling branches. The wind was generally only around 15-20km/hr that day. Speaking of wind, the first part of the trip was supposed to be done on an open-air jungle pick-up. But instead we were put in a normal minivan with tiny windows, taking away all the immersive experience as implied in the tour company's advertisements. The tour operator's reason was "strong wind" but we wouldn't call 15km/hr anything strong. We suspect it was because the minivan fits in more people - their open-air pick-up is designed for four adults normally but it was a group of six that day. To make things worse, our guide was less than enthusiastic and did not even give us his name - let alone any briefing about the trip or any systematic introduction of the rainforest. Overall, this experience is not worth the price we paid for, and frankly, not even worth the time we spent.
