A really wonderful part of my trip in Istanbul. Not only do they walk you thru the mechanics of making the coffee, but theres history and discussion of the social aspects. If you're at all curious about coffee culture, you should definitely go (bonus points for the reading of coffee grounds).

It was like the host didn't want to be there. Had limited knowledge of the coffee, had to be pressed to offer the traditional fortune telling, and I doubt he had any real knowledge of it. No history, no showmanship, no enthusiasm, just awkward. Better to go order a coffee at a cafe and watch them make it.

I attended a Turkish coffee workshop and it was a truly authentic and engaging experience. I learned traditional preparation techniques and discovered the history and culture behind this unique drink. The atmosphere was welcoming and the instructors very passionate and helpful. This was one of our favorite activities in Istanbul. Efe was so much fun. We did not reserve the fortune portion, but Efe was willing to play along, looking in our coffee cups, googling what the images mean, and laughing with us.
