More strenuous than expected. But amazingly beautiful.
This was an incredible experience, but was a much harder hike than we had expected. I counted 16000 and rather than a flat trail there was a lot of up and downs. The last bit is very steep. If you're in good shape, this should not be a problem. I'm surprised they had no accomodation for anyone with a handicap. They did mention that one woman had hired a helicopter to take her to the volcano.
Operator response
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback! 🌋 We’re delighted to hear you found the experience incredible, while also appreciating your honest comments about the difficulty of the hike.
The trail does involve significant elevation changes and some steep sections, so we understand how challenging it can be, especially if you are expecting a flatter route. We also appreciate your feedback regarding accessibility and the lack of suitable options for guests with limited mobility. We’ll certainly take this into consideration as we continue to improve our communication and services.
We hope to welcome you again for another Icelandic adventure!
Kind regards,

Need to be fairly fit....
I may have missed this detail....it is a 45 minute hike to the Base Camp and back on somewhat uneven ground.
VERY INTERESTING. More 'rustic' than cave tours in the States.
Operator response
Dear Gene,
Thank you so much for your review. We’re delighted to hear that you found the experience so interesting and enjoyed exploring the lava cave.
We also appreciate you pointing out the walk to and from the cave. The hike to the entrance is part of the adventure and does involve uneven terrain, so your feedback is helpful for future travellers when preparing for the tour.
Thank you again for travelling with us. We hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable adventure in Iceland.
Warm regards,

Despite having Pickup issues this was an amazing tour!
Excellent tour, the hike was a good distance which we enjoyed and it was a nice easy hike, the experience inside the volcano was amazing and quite unique. Our tour guide was wonderful and provided knowledge to us about the surrounding area as well as within the volcano. 2 complaints, for over $545, they should have picked us up in a minibus and directly taken us to volcano base camp starting point rather then picking us up in a large bus! The large bus then took us to the bus station where we were transferred to a more personal minibus which took us to the base camp starting point. Secondly, the tour was advertised to start at 8 AM. However, the day before the tour, we get an email telling us we need to be outside our cruise ship at 7:30 AM, for the 10 minute ride to the bus station where we were transferred to the minibus. We arrived at the bus pickup spot at the cruise terminal at 7:45 with 2 other groups and the driver of the large bus was rude to us and told us we were late. Despite his comment, we were in the minibus exactly at 8 AM for the start of the tour. In fact, there is no rush to start exactly at 8 AM, as we were back in town by 1:45 PM for an advertised 6-hour tour. The driver of the minibus did offer to the travelers.to drop people off in town which we took advantage of since we had limited time to see the highlights of Reykjavik.
Operator response
ello,
Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the hike and found the experience inside the volcano so unique and memorable. It’s wonderful to know that your guide’s knowledge about both the volcano and the surrounding area added to your experience.
We also appreciate your comments regarding the pickup process. Our pickup service is designed to collect guests from various locations before bringing everyone to the departure point, where they are transferred to the appropriate vehicle for the tour. We understand that this may not have been what you expected, and we’re sorry for any inconvenience this caused.
We’re also sorry to hear about your interaction during the pickup. That is certainly not the level of service we aim to provide, and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. Your feedback regarding the pickup timing and communication is valuable, and we will share it with our operations team for review.
Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback, and we hope to welcome you back to Iceland in the future.
Kind regards,
Sesili

DO not book. They are the Worst.
DO not use them. Absolutely the worst. They tell you 10 am pickup, and show up before that and leave. They NEVER say anywhere on this description they will be there before the pickup time. They never came or responded to ANY of my messages on the app. No reply, no call, no nothing. I waited from 10 am to 11:30 am and they finally wrote they were there at 9:42 am?
Its 10 AM pickup!! I wasted a complete day and have nothing to do now but walk the city by myself because its too late to do anything else.
Ive been using Viator for 5 years and have never had this experience before with any operator and I travel all over the world.
Operator response

Cool experience but not a lot of time spent in the volcano!!
We travelled with our 12 and 18 year old. The experience itself is amazing! However, it is very, very expensive for the time you get down below. It felt very rushed. Before I knew it, the guide was calling for us to go back up and they waste no time getting you in and out. The hike was great and a big part of the experience. For the money spent, you should be getting more time down in the volcano.
Operator response
Hello,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re very glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed the overall experience and especially the hike, which is such an important part of the adventure.
We also appreciate your comments regarding the time spent inside the volcano. We understand your perspective, especially considering the uniqueness and cost of the experience. The timing is carefully managed to accommodate all scheduled groups safely and smoothly throughout the day, but feedback like yours is very valuable and will be shared with our team.

Inside Volcano Tour
This was the absolute highlight of my trip. Although pricey, very very VERY worth it! Our guides were humorous, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The hike to the volcano was a little long, but not strenuous and our group was full of mixed-ages from young to old. The colors inside the volcano and just the sheer size of it will definitely leave you in awe. Highly highly highly recommend!

The best experience! 10/10!
This was an incredible and surreal experience! An absolute highlight of our trip to Iceland.
I usually try to leave reviews covering “the good, the bag and the ugly” but there was nothing bad or ugly about this - except the bus driver who drove us to the location was a very erratic driver and not the safest, no one on the bus felt very safe on the way there or back.
The entire experience and the guides were 10/10. I recommended this tour to multiple people while I was still in Iceland and I will tell anyone going to Iceland to do it too.
My partner and I had the best time. The inside of the volcano is like nature’s cathedral and the walk across the lava field is so invigorating. It really felt like a once in a lifetime experience.
And the veggie soup we were served at the end was one of the best I’ve ever had!
Thank you for such a great day!

This is an experience not...
This is an experience not to be missed when visiting Iceland. The only place in the world that you can actually go into a "dormant" volcano and witness the interior beauty. The guides were wonderful and caring, and the entire experience - from arrival to departure - was second to none! HIGHLY recommend.
Operator response
