Description
Our Savannah History Walk is an excellent way to orient yourself with Savannah’s past. We start in Savannah’s oldest square and outline the founding of both Savannah and Georgia. From there we head south, square by square, discussing Savannah’s booms and busts.
Some topics covered include the Oglethorpe Plan for squares, the father vs. son atmosphere of Revolutionary Savannah, the city’s most famous duel, Presidential visits, the Civil War era and Federal occupation, the experience of Antebellum and post-War African Americans, and the city’s churches and historic homes. We’ll take our talk right up to the tourist boom brought on by a certain book, the growing Port of Savannah, and where the city goes from here. You’ll also hear about dozens of men and women who made this place what it is.
This is Savannah's most in-depth and comprehensive historic tour. Whether a tourist or longtime resident, you’ll walk away with a greater appreciation of all things Savannah.

We had a wonderful...
We had a wonderful walking tour with James. My husband and I were the only ones on the tour that day, so James was able to hone in on what our interests were. We told him we had just read the book "Demon of Unrest" about the start of the Civil War, so he focused on the history of that time. But we also learned about the early settlers and what happened after the Civil War.

A great way to learn about Savannah’s History
A great historical walking tour. Our guide Sara was really excellent. She told us facts and stories for the full 2-hour tour, and was engaging and interesting the whole time. And she was witty too. If you’re in Savannah and have a few hours to walk around the historic district and learn about the city’s interesting history, I strongly recommend this tour. An A+!!!

Lays a great foundation for your Savannah visit!
Guide is passionate & well-versed in the area’s history since the city’s founding. While it was hot, it was not intolerable and many of the squares are shady. There is some uneven pavement so care is needed. A good value for your time we thought!

Don’t Miss This One
This was a truly outstanding tour. The tour guide connected the buildings and geography with a sweep of history of this amazing city. It was interesting and held our attention firmly for the two hours. The guy did a great job asking for questions and then answering them expertly. He was smart enough to park us in the shade on this hot Jorge day. We loved it and would take another tour with this individual anytime.

Best Tour Guide in Savannah
Unbelievably please with Savannah True History Tours. Brandon was the best tour guide I've had in Savannah. My wife and I have visited the city together numerous times and we always book 2-3 tours while we are there and Savannah History Tours was head and shoulders above the rest. We took the Revolutionary War tour on our final day in the city and my only regret is that we did not go at the beginning of the trip. We would have booked the Civil War tour as well.
It's worth mentioning that Brandon began his career as a Park Ranger and it was apparent in our experience with him. Knowledgeable, eloquent, and grounded in truth. There was no speculation and Brandon adapted the tour easily to our questions and interests. We will be booking with him again on our next visit.

The guide was great. She told very entertaining fact based stories. The pacing was nice. We covered a lot of ground and weren’t too tired at the end.

Make this touor your introduction to savannah
We took the 2 hour Savannah history tour and it was excellent. The tour website describes the tour well. It's not surprising that this company has won a number of awards as Savannah's best tour.
Don't skimp and just take the 1 hour tour. There is so much to cover even the 2 hour tour left you wanting for more. This is the perfect introductory tour for your visit to Savannah. Savannah is a city of squares each with its own contribution to the history of Savannah.
We truly felt the history of the Savannah and what makes the city unique.

Absolutely a gem!
James was awesome! He is very knowledgeable and well prepared with photos/maps throughout the tour. The walk was easy and covered wide range of topics that other tours did not. I don’t know much about American history but still found myself deeply interested all the time. Highly recommended!
