Based on Japanese mythology and classical literature, performers in gorgeous costumes dance gracefully to the accompaniment of lively music. English subtitles are also available, allowing visitors from overseas to experience traditional culture in a more intimate setting. We occasionally offer backstage tours after the performance, which require an additional fee. These tours include explanations from the performers and an opportunity to interact with them. First time going, great experience if you have never seen Japanese theatre. Play lasted 45 minutes which was perfect. The musicians were very good and the actors ranged from 4 to 53 years old. Two hosts, one of whom translates during the introduction. A display above the stage translates the play into english. For the extra coin do the back stage question and photo op, play the instruments and try on the costumes. We had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the experience.
Book this show. It is stunning. The dancers are volunteers but you wouldn't know it from watching them move. The costumes are bright and elaborate. After the show you have photo ops with the cast and dan try on costumes.
This was a highlight of our trip. I rearranged our trip to be in Hiroshima on a Wednesday night to see a Kagura performance once I read about it, and it was absolutely stunning to see this live. We saw the Shimogouchi Kagura Troupe perform, and they did an incredible job. I can’t recommend this enough.
It was an amazing experience for my family. As a Japanese person who grew up in Hiroshima, I used to watch Kagura at summer festivals, so bringing my family to Hiroshima from the U.S. made this a must-have experience on our itinerary. If the dragon had come out during the show, it would have made our son’s night. He was really looking forward to seeing it! But overall, the performance was amazing, and we all had a wonderful time.

Fantastic, not-to-be-missed event. The explanation in English at the beginning of the performance was extremely helpful in understanding the action on stage. The performers and the musicians were excellent. Highly recommend. And when you buy through Viator you are guaranteed great seats.
