Get out of the city for this experience
My grandchild and I just spent a delightful afternoon with Satoko and her family.
We went for a tour of their gardens and picked vegetables for our meal.
We then ‘helped’ Satoko prepare the food and sat with her family to share the meal.
It was just beautiful. Thank you Sakota and your beautiful family.
Operator response
Thank you for visiting our home.
I am happy that you enjoyed our home and my dishes. Japanese food is not strong flavor. So some people feel that Japanese food has no taste. But in fact Japanese cuisine is based on bringing out the natural flavor of ingredients. That’s why I was truly happy that you enjoyed the cherry blossom-pickled daikon-delicately flavored, very Japanese kind of seasoning.

An educational cooking class through which you really get to know Japanese culture
We had a wonderful day! The family is very loving, we were especially impressed by the children and how helpful they were. It was really fun, would definitely recommend!

Thank you for visiting our home and leave a review. We enjoyed the time with you also. We may be a bit old‑fashioned , but it makes us happy that you sensed how much we enjoy living close to nature and sharing meals in a natural setting.
If seeing an origami crane reminds you of us, that would mean a lot to us.

Wonderful memory
We had the pleasure of sharing an afternoon with Satoko and her children. It was a pleasure to discover the vegetable garden despite the very high heat, then to cook with our respective children who were the same age, for a fresh and tasty meal. This moment of exchange about our cultures, lives, and cuisines was rich and will remain a superb, memorable souvenir of our vacation in Japan.
Operator response
Thank you for visiting our home.I’m truly happy that you enjoyed the Japanese dishes.
It was also very meaningful to fold origami cranes together and talk about their origins as a symbol of peace.
I hope that experiencing a bit of everyday Japanese life will bring even a small positive influence to your daily life.

Highly Recommended!
We had an absolutely incredible experience at Satoko's home. Her and her children were brilliant hosts - from collecting and dropping us off at the local train station, to exploring Satoko's garden and learning about different vegetables and Japanese herbs, to cooking us a beautiful, authentic meal. A highlight for us was helping to make some of the dishes (sesame miso soup and pickled cucumbers) and learning about each ingredient. So much of what we ate was made from scratch by Satoko - from persimmon vinegar to pickled plums. Satoko's daughter also documented the day through brilliant photography which was shared with us afterwards. It was an absolute pleasure to meet her and her family and experience such a wonderful part of Japan. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone hoping for an authentic, slower paced, special insight into Japan.
Operator response
Thank you for choosing this experience as part of your very special trip.
Even with the same ingredients, food can change completely depending on how you cook it. If you can find similar ingredients in your country, I hope you will try making these dishes at home. I’m sure they will bring more variety to your cooking.
If this enriches your daily life even a little, nothing would make me happier.

The Hidden Gem Experience That Made Our Japan Trip Unforgettable
This was our second trip to Japan, and after taking many tours around the world, I can honestly say this was one of the most meaningful experiences we’ve ever had.
This wasn’t just a sightseeing tour. It was an opportunity to experience Japanese home and culture and learn about the daily lives of people who live outside the big cities. We truly appreciated taking the local train, meeting Satoko and her family, and spending time with three generations living together in the same village. Their home is beautiful and it gave us an authentic glimpse into everyday life in Japan.
One of the highlights was harvesting fresh vegetables from the garden and then preparing a homemade meal together. Satoko thoughtfully adjusted the menu to accommodate our dietary needs, and the food was absolutely delicious. We both love cooking, so this was an especially memorable experience for both of us.
The children were so warm and welcoming. They played with us, practiced their English, and we learned so much from them as well. It was a genuine cultural exchange that made the day even more special.
Satoko's daughter is an incredibly talented photographer. She captured beautiful moments throughout the experience and they shared the photos with us afterward. The pictures were professional, natural, and are memories we will treasure forever.
This experience was authentic, heartfelt, and unforgettable. I cannot express enough appreciation for the kindness and hospitality we received. I highly, highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a true cultural experience in Japan, beyond the usual tourist attractions.
Operator response
Thank you so much for your lovely words.
One of the reasons my dishes taste good is simply that the ingredients themselves are delicious. Fresh, high‑quality ingredients make any dish better. In fact, when the ingredients are good, there’s no need to add too much—what matters most is bringing out their natural flavor.
The idea that “Japanese cuisine values the true taste of the ingredients” is at the heart of our cooking philosophy, which is why choosing good ingredients is so important. I’m truly happy that you noticed that.
And hearing that you cooked the dishes at home made me even happier. It’s wonderful to know that your everyday meals now have more variety.
What shall I teach you next?!haha

A Truly Authentic Japanese Experience — One of the Highlights of Our Trip
BOOK THIS EXPERIENCE!!
During our travels throughout East and Southeast Asia, we have had many memorable cultural experiences, but our time with Satoko was truly one of the most special. Her beautiful home and village are just a short train ride from Hiroshima, yet it feels like a completely different world away from the busy tourist areas.
From the moment we arrived, Satoko warmly welcomed us into her home and made us feel like family. If you are looking for an authentic glimpse into Japanese countryside life, combined with a kind and gracious host, this experience is absolutely not to be missed.
We spent time exploring Satoko's beautiful gardens alongside her, her father, and her children. We picked fresh ingredients directly from the garden to use in our meal and then enjoyed an incredible cooking class followed by one of the best home-cooked meals we have ever experienced while traveling.
What made this experience so special was the genuine cultural exchange. Satoko and her family shared their traditions, stories, and daily life with us in such a warm and personal way. Her children were wonderful, and their kindness and hospitality made us feel truly welcomed into their home.
This was far more than just a cooking class — it was an opportunity to connect with local people, experience Japanese countryside culture, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Many thanks to Satoko and her family for their incredible hospitality, generosity, and kindness. This experience was a highlight of our entire trip, and we would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone visiting the Hiroshima area.

Thank you so much for leaving such a detailed and heartfelt review.
Living in the countryside, we are surrounded by warm connections with our neighbors. We help each other and express gratitude every day, and I believe that growing up in this environment naturally teaches our children those values as well.
You showed so much love and kindness to our child and made sure he had fun, and because of that, we were able to enjoy our time with you even more.
In a small rural town, daily life can easily become closed off, and it’s hard to encounter diversity. But thanks to guests like you who share your cultures and perspectives, my child is able to learn about different ways of thinking and appreciate diversity.
We truly hope to see you again someday.
Please feel free to reach out anytime.

BOOK THIS EXPERIENCE!! Satoko so warmly welcomed us into her beautiful home and village, a quick train ride from Hiroshima but a world away from anything we've ever experienced in our extensive travels across East and Southeast Asia. If you're looking for an authentic, local taste of the Japanese countryside with the kindest host, this experience cannot be beat. We explored Satoko's beautiful gardens with her, her father, and children, picked ingredients directly from the garden to include in our meal, and proceeded to have the best cooking class, cultural exchange, and home-cooked meal we've had in any of our travels. Satoko and her children made us feel so welcome and provided the most authentic and genuine experience one could hope to have. Many thanks Satoko for your hospitality and kindness.

Thank you so much for visiting our home.
I’m truly happy to hear that you enjoyed the vegetable dishes. Japanese cuisine uses a lot of vegetables, so I’m glad I could prepare dishes that suited your dietary restrictions and preferences.
Some guests have told me that while they often eat sesame seeds, they’ve never used freshly ground sesame in cooking, so it feels very new to them. Now that you have your own suribachi (grinding bowl), I hope you’ll try making many kinds of Japanese dishes at home.
Once you get used to grinding sesame, I highly recommend trying shira-ae (tofu and vegetable salad) and sesame sauce, which is delicious on noodles or as a dressing.

One of our favorite activities in Japan!
This was easily one of our favorite activities in Japan. Satoko welcomed us into her family home in the countryside. It’s an easy one route train from Hiroshima station. It takes about an hour, but the view is honestly amazing and nothing you would get in cities. The village is surrounded by mountains so the view there is stunning. We got to pick some seasonal vegetables and cook some dishes. Satoko completed the rest with homecooked recipes. Everything was delicious. I haven’t eaten most of the dishes anywhere else. Satoko was kind enough to share some recipes. We got to meet and talk with her two children. It was fun to teach them some words in French, English and Spanish and for us to learn some Japanese. They were so sweet and were very interested in learning more about us. The whole experience honestly felt like being welcomed by relatives and as if it lasted more than 4 hours. Will cherish this experience! Love from Canada xx

Thank you for visiting our home. We also enjoyed the time with you.
I was truly happy to see how much you enjoyed everything — being curious about all kinds of insects, tasting my homemade dishes and saying they were delicious, and appreciating the beauty of the rural scenery.
Seeing all of you having such a wonderful time meant the world to me. The children also said they had a great time and were very satisfied.
Please feel free to contact me anytime.
I hope you will visit Japan again, and next time, learn a different style of Japanese cuisine to take home with you.
I think the weak yen will continue for a while, so it’s a good time to travel (haha).
