Itinerary
Embark on an unforgettable half-day adventure to Pacaya, one of Guatemala’s most active volcanoes. After a scenic one-hour drive from Antigua, begin a guided hike through lush forests and volcanic terrain. The trail offers striking views and leads to a plateau with dried lava fields and steaming vents—clear signs of ongoing volcanic activity. For safety reasons, visitors can’t approach the crater, but the volcanic heat is felt underfoot. Super fun experience david took amazing pictures for us too.
Excellent hike, but better to pay for the horses, they and their handlers earn their salary. Fantastic view of volcanoes, lush vegetation
Beautiful Hike. It was fast paced and definitely needed the horse. Most people can do the hike, it is just at a faster pace than I was prepared for.
This was an amazing hike! Very intense in the beginning since it's a steep climb, but the views (and the marshmallows) are worth it! Our guide Ervin was great, very knowledgeable and funny too. PSA: The road to the volcano is pretty winding, so if you get motion sickness easily I'd recommend using a scopolamine patch or taking some Dramamine before.
Great experience! 7/10 difficultly level but worth the view.
This is a one in a lifetime experience. Our tour guide Elvin (Mono) was amazing, knowledgeable and professional, funny and always attentive to our safety. 10/10 recommended Keila y Carlos🇵🇷
I loved this entire experience. I thought I was physically in shape but definitely felt the burn when we started the hike up to the volcano. I’m not prideful and opted for a horse on the way up and it was the most breathtaking experience I’ve ever done. Definitely recommend.
We had a wonderful time on the half-day guided hike on Pacaya. Our driver was excellent, as was our guide Ervin. The hike was strenuous but doable, and horses were available for anyone that needed/wanted them (at an extra cost). We enjoyed learning about the eruption that occurred a few years ago and how it changed the landscape, as well as about some of the native plants and animals in the area.
It was Amazing Everything was very smooth! It was hard but we got through it. It’s definitely worth your time.
Everything was very well organized and perfectly on time, from our pickup to the ride back to our hotel. Our guide, Ervin, was outstanding—kind, patient, knowledgeable, and incredibly friendly. He truly made the experience unforgettable. If you have the chance, definitely ask for Ervin. He’s a local, knows the community extremely well, and made us feel safe and comfortable throughout the hike. I’d rate the hike around a 5–7 out of 10 in difficulty, especially if the altitude affects you. Thankfully, our guide was very supportive and paced the hike well. And once you reach the top, the views are absolutely worth it!
