An excellent tour guided by a history professor with deep knowledge of the history of Charleston. Loved it.
Our excursion director was outstanding. Very knowledgeable about Charleston and the issues/religious influences impacting the city. Great experience.
Hang out at the Palmetto Hotel Bar and meet the most fascinating tour guide of Old Charlestown. Much like Hemingway being a fixture at Sloppy Joes in Key West, Bill Is a key fixture to historic Charleston and the Palmetto. Buy him a drink and watch him entertain, educate, and provide the true history of the city and its checkered past. If you really want to see him in rare form ask him his thoughts on the Citadel. If you happen to be at the Palmetto for an espresso martini and you hear a guy talking about history, say hello to Bill and trust he will give you the raw and unfiltered truth.
In spite of a hot July day, this walking tour of Charleston was a terrific time. Our guide Bill, a man with a substantial background in SC history, explained the evolution of Charleston and its place in American history in great detail. We saw many points of interest in the historic district. This tour is highly recommended.
Led by historian, very knowledgeable and he shared a comprehensive history of Charleston. I highly recommend this tour. Super affordable for the experience.
If you value truth and history, Bill is the right tour guide for you.
Very informative and full of facts rather than the glossed over version.
First time in Charleston and didn't know a lot about the historical background of the city. Extremely glad we did this tour with Bill on our first day in town. He's extremely knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging in this tour. Even though we got caught in the rain about half-way through our tour, he didn't let it stop him and we had an excellent time. The walking portion of the tour wasn't too strenuous, and Bill made sure he stopped at places where everyone in the group could easily hear him. I'd recommend this tour to anyone visiting Charleston who isn't afraid of the harsh realities of this country's past and genuinely wants to expand their knowledge.
Bill Harris was terrific. Extremely knowledgeable of Charleston and history in general!
Took the tour with guide Bill. He was well informed - clearly history driven - very stimulating and provocative. Rather than a schtick tour, Bill opened by inviting questions as a start point. Along the well thought out itinerary he shared insights and stories as might be expected. Outside the Old Slave Mart he struck a very principled position regarding "revisionist" telling of history regarding the "peculiar institution" which was refreshing and new. Bill took the time to answer all questions and even had a cracker-jack recommendation for further Civil War reading. Very, very worthwhile.
