Ghosts of Charleston Walking Tour + Unitarian Church Graveyard

Description
Highlight: Exclusive nighttime entry into the 1772 Unitarian Church Graveyard. This lush garden graveyard is otherworldly, enchanted, and magical. There is nothing like it anywhere. Before the churchyard experience, our expert storytellers lead you through gas lamp lit streets and alleys, sharing eerie tales of mystery and wonder from Charleston's 356 years of rich and romantic history. Based on the book The Ghosts of Charleston by Julian Buxton (over 100,000 copies sold). The Ghosts of Charleston is our city's most popular, oldest, book-based walking tour--a favorite of residents and visitors for over 30 years. Departs from Buxton Books several times each evening. Come walk with us.

Itinerary
Start your tour at Buxton Books, and stop in either before or after your tour to purchase a copy of the The Ghosts of Charleston, the book this ghost tour is based off of.
The highlight of The Ghosts of Charleston Tour is entering the lush, spellbinding Unitarian Church Graveyard built in 1772. Real time haunts occur several times a year. Since 1996, (we are now Charleston's oldest ghost tour) spirits in the Unitarian Church Graveyard have reached out to many people on our tour in visual, tactile and auditory ways.
Listen to Julian Buxton's strange and moving story titled "The Spectral Photograph", from his book The Ghosts of Charleston. See the majestic St Philip's steeple and graveyard.
Historic church located in downtown Charleston
During our 90 minute walking ghost tour, our City of Charleston licensed tour guides recount hauntings and supernatural events from our best-selling book The Ghosts of Charleston. We are fortunate to have many repeat guests, and lots of tales to share, so we switch things up nightly by varying ghosts stories on every tour. There is no experience like walking enchanted Charleston at night, listening to our supernatural stories, and encountering what you will see and hear in the Unitarian Church Graveyard.

Jerry was an amazing tour guide! Had so much fun on this ghost tour.
Jerry absolutely killed it! It ended up being just me and my friend on the tour, so he personalized it to us and brought us to exclusive places that he usually can’t bring big groups. He clearly has so many more stories to tell, I would take this tour again in a heartbeat. Probably the best ghost tour I’ve ever been on. Jerry is such a stud. #WomenInStem
Sadly, this tour was a miss for our group. We were excited to take our family on a ghost tour, since my husband and I had been before, and really enjoyed it. The stories the guide shared were very, very long and basically based on digital photos from an iPad. We would have loved to hear more stories on the actual history of the various graveyards and ghost stories. There was nothing spooky or scary about the tour, and we were all relieved when it wrapped up. We've traveled a lot and take a lot of tours, and I write very few negative reviews, but this was a disappointment.
Here’s a polished review you could post: We had an incredible experience on the Ghosts of Charleston Walking Tour, thanks to our guide, Kim! From the moment the tour began, her energy was contagious and kept everyone engaged. She has an amazing gift for storytelling, bringing Charleston’s haunted history to life with the perfect mix of fascinating facts, suspense, and humor. Kim made the city’s history feel immersive and captivating, and her enthusiasm never faded throughout the tour. We laughed, learned, and were completely drawn into every story she shared. If you’re looking for a walking tour that’s entertaining, informative, and unforgettable, ask for Kim—you won’t be disappointed! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommend!
We enjoyed this Charleston ghost walking tour. It was fun and packed with ghost stories that kept us entertained. Our 13-year-old granddaughter was with us, and she thought the tour was a hoot. Our guide, Liz, is a skilled storyteller. Her delivery made the history of the city come alive, which made the walk enjoyable for our family. If you want an evening activity in Charleston that holds the attention of teenagers and adults, we recommend this walking tour.
Luke was wonderful, very knowledgeable, and personable. He seemed genuinely interested in the things he was presenting and I would recommend this tour to anyone that I now who is coming here and wanted to go on a ghost tour.
Luke was very informative and passionate in the telling of ghost stories. Due to the rain an hour before our tour everyone in our group cancelled except for us so we had a private tour so to say. My favorite was the visit to the graveyard. This was the only tour that had entry into the graveyard at night. And yes.. I did capture a picture something at the graveyard.
Walking down long, dark, narrow alleys and in a churchyard, at night, in the dark, looking and listening for apparitions is exactly the experience we were looking for.
Our tour guide was Jerry. Great story teller and highly captivating.
Liz was an amazing story teller, very knowledgeable on Charleston as her family have lived there for generations. We learned a lot as first time visitors. Thank you so much Liz ☺️
