Handmade Japanese Glass Art Sandblasting Workshop in Tokyo

Description
This workshop is led by Master Nakagawa, the owner of the atelier, offering guests a rare opportunity to learn directly from a professional glass artist rather than an assistant or facilitator. Unlike typical craft experiences, participants use a professional sandblasting machine and work through the full creative process—from design to finishing—within a compact 90-minute session. With a wide selection of traditional Japanese motifs and hands-on guidance throughout, even beginners can create a refined, high-quality glass artwork. The small-group setting ensures personal attention, while the finished piece serves as a functional, authentic souvenir that reflects both Japanese aesthetics and the participant’s own design.

The workshop is great. The person is very kind. It was a real discovery and a true pleasure to discover this art.
Very fun and easy to learn. You learn to cut stencils from sticker paper, and then blast your glass with a sand blowing machine to make the patterns stand out. Went with my daughter and we both had a nice time!
Was such a fun little add on to do on our honeymoon. He walked us through every step and our cups turned out so well!
I really enjoyed creating the glasses, very fun experience overall and wound up with a lovely souvenir!
Shortly to the sequence, you choose a glass, then gradually start to stick it with stickers with different motifs (large selection, adapting motifs, writing etc. are also possible) and "cut out" these, when you are done comes the sand irradiation and the stickers have to come off again, then the glass is finished.
What a wonderful experience today with Akihiko-san in his glass sandblasting studio. He is a very knowledgeable, kind and patient teacher. He seems to enjoy sharing his craft with people. This was my first time ever with glass crafts and sandblasting, so the activity required a lot of focus on my part during the design stage. But Akihiko-san did an outstanding job guiding us step by step through the process with great instructions. I actually got to do the hands-on sandblasting of the glass after the design stage with the studio equipment. Best of all, it’s a beautiful souvenir which you create, design and make. It’s indeed a unique, creative and rewarding experience in Tokyo which I highly recommend!
This was a fun activity to do while in Tokyo. The instructor was very nice and did a good job explaining each step of the process. After selecting the designs, much of the work is in cutting the patterns so as to leave the sticker behind creating the pattern. After sandblasting the colors are etched away. This part was quick but fun to do. The finished glass looked great and is a cool souvenir. Definitely recommend this class to spend some time doing Japanese art.
Wonderful experience! You are guided through all the steps and don't need any knowledge beforehand. The products turn out very beautiful!
The teacher was super nice and patient showing me all the steps and skills needed to do the work. The result is amazing! It’ll make a great present for my family!
This small shop is located a short walk from the station. The owner was very friendly, and helpful when giving instructions during the workshop. He also had very beautiful pieces he's made on display
