Better off reading a guidebook as you walk

My family generally loves self-guided walking tours but this one was plagued with issues. First of all, it doesn’t give a suggested walking route, so you have to figure out how to best organize the stops. Second, it uses Google Maps for the sites and SoundClouds for the audio- which it recommends you use from a web browser because the app versions render the tour nonfunctional. But this was problematic both in the annoyance of having to switch between pages and in that my phone defaults to open apps when you click an link and Google Maps didn’t show my location in my web browser. Finally, the content at each stop was about 20 minutes long of back and forth dialogue between the 2 hosts - the content was way too detailed (lots of names and dates from history) and repetitive to hold our interest while staring at the site in question. Overall, this tour was not an improvement over navigating myself and reading facts from an online guidebook.

Operator response

The points raised here don't reflect a fault in the tour — each one is explained by how the product is built and delivered. The tour's interactive Google My Maps link includes every attraction pinned and connected to its audio guide, with an illustrated route and a suggested order built in from the start — travelers can follow that order or deviate from it as they like. A suggested route is part of the map, not something left for the traveler to work out. Audio is delivered via SoundCloud and the itinerary via Google My Maps, and both links are designed to be opened in a mobile browser (Safari/Chrome) rather than their native apps — the app versions of both do not function correctly for this kind of linked, multi-stop content. This is stated in the delivery instructions sent with every booking. A phone defaulting to open a linked app instead of a browser, or a browser not surfacing device location, are settings controlled by the phone's operating system, not by the tour itself. Narration runs deliberately long — around 20 minutes per stop — to provide historical, architectural, and cultural depth rather than a highlights-only summary. That length and level of detail is a stated design choice for this tour, not an oversight. We share this much detail publicly because review platforms don't require a reviewer to have read the listing before writing about it — and unfortunately, some reviews reflect a mismatch with what was booked rather than a flaw in the product itself. We'd encourage every future traveller to read the full listing before booking any tour, on any platform, so your experience matches your expectations from the start.
