Description

Discover an underground world of magic and mystery in the impressive Drach Caves, a unique experience in Mallorca! Located in Porto Cristo, these four caves were formed between 11 and 5.3 million years ago. Their subterranean landscape, shaped by the filtration of rainwater through limestone rocks, looks like something out of a science fiction film. The Drach Caves are a dramatic limestone cave system on the outskirts of Porto Cristo, featuring carved walkways, impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and one of the largest underground lakes in the world, the lake Martel, where you will be able to enjoy a boat ride and a classical music concert. On the way back, you will also have the chance to visit a pearl factory in Mallorca, with over a hundred years of experience in crafting world-renowned organic artificial pearls.

Dated and out of touch

The trip was not as good as we expected in fact out of 10 I would give it a two only. Things to improve the experience. 1, the classical music experience is far too short. In fact it was a rip off time wise. 2, the classical music experience is lost on most people because the elderly could not hear it. Unfortunately the tour operator insists on the natural sound effect. However if it was amplified the continued interruption of the tour guides shouting over the music “no pictures please” would not have been so bad. Why not amplify the music and shine torches on the offending photographers. 3, the illumination is dull and dated. It should be like all other modern similar experiences- multicoloured lights with sequenced dynamic illumination. That would emphasise the visual experience.

Disappointed and ripped off.

Your time in the caves is approx. 45 minuets. They call it half day because the count it from the time they pick you up which in my case was 1 hour drive towards Palma when our hotel was only 15 minuets drive from the caves and they also take you to the pearl factory to try and get you to spend money there. Due to the pickup location, I said we will just drive and meet at the caves, I was first told to be there for 9.30, then when there it shifted to 10.30, then 11.45. When the guide arrived, he said we should just go in the caves by ourselves which we did. 30 mins queue to get in, walk for 5 -10 mins then told to be seated while a rowing boat came past playing classical music which if that is your thing then you will enjoy it, but you are not allowed to take photos or videos of the performance which made it pointless. Then another 30 minuets queue to get on a rowing boat for a short 3-minute row about 300m where you then walk out. We were charged $255 AUD for 3 adults and 2 children, the ticket price at the caves is 19.50euro adults and 12.50euro children. There is public transport that goes to the caves or if you have a hire car drive yourself. The caves themselves are amazing and well worth the 19.50euro entry fee.

A dripstone cave that is worth a visit.

A massive dripstone cave with countless stalagmites and stalactites. At the end, there is a beautiful classical concert and the opportunity for a short boat trip across a freshwater lake. Definitely book online in advance. There is also a beautiful swimming bay 200m away. Parking spaces are plentiful.

Excellent tour bus experience to Drach Cave

This was a really great tour experience. Our guide Marga and driver Eduardo were very organized, helpful, and friendly so we knew exactly what the itinerary was and what would happen on the visit. The communication from the company about the pickup and drop off was great. The bus was comfortable with good A/C, and the drive was smooth. The cave itself was beautiful, and it ended with a really delightful mini-concert. Marga also spoke multiple languages facilitating a nice experience for everyone. Would highly recommend as the value for the experience was very good.

Caves are unbelievable

The tour was very well organized. We received messages before pick-up to make sure we were on time and in right place. The has a/c which was life saver in Julys heat. Caves are unbelievable. Even if it is crowded in caves, everything worked smoothly. Waiting for the boat ride is recommended. The tour guide is polite and speaks many languages.

An excursion to take.

The transfer from the hotel is perfect. The journey to the cave is a bit long from Palma, but the guide provides us with several pieces of information about the island. Our ticket included the option to take a boat tour on the lake, but the number of visitors does not allow for it without fearing missing the return shuttle. The visit lasts a little over an hour, and that is sufficient to stop, observe, and listen to the classical concert.
